I went to a local game shop to check out the game night. The shop was still open, but they weren't hosting anything and it was just me and the owner. I ended up playing a bit of his display games with him so he could learn to teach it, and also talked with him for close to an hour since it was pretty quiet. There was some neat insight about the business. A few big takeaways were
>He likes meeting publishers at cons. He said he especially liked the people at Devir and Eagle Griffon.
>Ticket to Ride and Small-box card games like Uno and Oink games are his favorite things to stock. Apparently they just sell themselves.
>apparently I live in the same city as one of the artists for Boss monster.
Then Saturday night I FINALLY got to play a game of Dune Imperium a friend group of mine have been talking about getting together for close to two years. Me and the guy that owned the copy tied on victory points, I won the tiebreaker by having five spice. It was a really good game. two of the others hadn't played it before. The one seemed to start to get it and like it, the guy who got last hated it and hated that there wasn't a way for him to dogpile on me for having an early lead, lmao.
"Fuck" and "Yiff" is the most obvious funny Leder game title, but in more serious terms "Cash", "Ploy", "Dial", and "Hunt" could all be something interesting. I would love to see Kyle make art for "DOOM".
I throw out inserts if they can't comfortably fit sleeved cards. That includes my copy of Chinatown, and my deluxe dune imperium player card tray. I'll also always sharpie any score counter piece that doesn't already have a +100 or whatever on the reverse side, if it's a game where scores can easily reach over the limit. So Ticket to ride, El Grande, Dune Imperium, and Concordia are all markered.
Also that's the single best OP image we've ever had. Does it exist in higher resolution?
