Tried it out for an hour and half. Wasn’t even planning on buying this game because I wasn’t digging the new look of DK, but the overall aesthetics looked good. I think its mechanics are pretty refreshing actually and I’m looking forward to smashing holes into mountains and digging through dirt tomorrow.

It's no DKC, it's on the level of Odyssey so far so it's not bad, but it's missing the melancholy sound and the slow buildup rollercoaster to a banger and then a calm retrospective roll off like dkc, but I'm only 3 layers deep.
It's more of a typical modern Nintendo sound with hints of dkc, as well as remixes of dkc music.
