It was basically 'find monster, tag it with a paintball to see it on the map, fight monster' It was a very strict dodge/block movement for defense and much slower overall and each monster had its own area or level and was fairly small
World sort of changed it with the idea being it more casual (not a bad thing), like your weapon has to be sharpened, before you had to carry whetstones and they could run out, here you get an infinite use one, before when you used some items like potions mainly, you'd do a pose afterwards and coldn't move, here you can walk, completely different (again easier imo) skill system (buffs to your character, not actionable skills)
Monsters can and will fight one another if one wanders into their area
Fast travel on the map, the slinger (grappling hook) to add easier verticality

Try it. You will get your shit pushed in, a lot. Just keep at it and try different weaposn, even look up this fags videos after you find a weapon you like
