What's ultimately bad about Japanese games is how lame and narrative flat they tend to be.
As a people, they just really love tropes, and really hate stepping outside of pre-defined boxes.

What is there to learn? All of the companies that embraced the west won.
Sony abandoned Japan and it's doing better than ever.
Arcsys removed fanservice from Guilty Gear and turned a trap into a literal tranny and this massively boosted the game's sales.
Capcom is not even japanese anymore and it's doing better than ever, even in "based" Japan.
Square and Sega are slowly but surely following suit.

They should just stop watering down existing niche franchises so incredibly hard. World was perfectly fine balanced between "old" MH but more modern and accessible. To turn Wilds into a fucking bossrush game with forced boring ass story segments and dropping almost everything that defined MH was so ridiculously stupid.

A game like Dragon's Crown was considered extremely controversial by games journalists in 2012. That wouldn't happen now. Likewise, I can definitely assure you that Dragon's Crown could still release just fine today.
There is still a fine line between Japanese developers eradicating all traces of fanservice and the type of games platform holders are trying to kill.
