>>713982765Sounds about right, just need to decide on what the support cast is and what they bring into the story. Is anyone trying to compete with Scrooge, like Glomgold or Rockerduck setting up their own business? Does Scrooge get advice (competent or otherwise) from family & friends, like the nephews being knowledgeable about industry quirks, or Gyro providing development tools? What's the precise nature of the ending gag, is it a total loss for Scrooge, and how much of that is self-inflicted or simply bad luck or bad advice?

>>713986497People overexaggerate it out of a mix of Rosa and Ducktales each having softened him and old Italian stories making him outright villainous sometimes, but people assume that's still true in the current day somehow
For instance in 50s, 60s, or 70s stories in Italy you easily find instances of things like Scrooge saying he made his fortune selling Opium in China or kicking Donald and the nephews to live on the streets because he wants to build a highway and so wants to demolish Donald's house, but that's the sort of thing that'd never happen nowadays

Is there something like a ranking of best stories (from all countries)? I'm on a quest to re-read all my childhood pocketbooks and then everything by Rosa and Barks, but after that some way to find the best out of the 10000000000 European comics would be great
>>714023361Really? I hate them for how too status quo it is and while it's being years since I read them but keep recycling the same poses and stories. Don Rosa and Carl Barks are the best and the Italian ones are good in general but our weekly mag is just weak

>>713993636I like to think Fethry just has a weird interest in Brazil and because he's associated with Scrooge he can just fly from America to Brazil and hang there whenever he wants, and Scrooge would be happy to provide so he deals with Fethry less

>>714032660i remember how they tried to release 2017 ducktales comics here but they disappeared from the shelves very fast
>>714026625Good news: he has visited Finnish comic-cons two years in a row so there is a real chance he'll keep traveling here annually as long as his health allows him.
Bad news: he'll be incredibly popular and you'll have to come early, buy the most expensive early access tickets (still worth it), be faster than other visitors, and also have a bit of luck to meet him.
>>714033454The thing is the fact it's a bad adaptation is irrelevant, it's a bad show on its own terms. If it was about wholly new characters it'd still be bad.
But there's some good ideas in the mix at least, mostly in visuals, and worth mining
>>714039553It's pretty universal how every show forgot good storytelling because they forced out the old pros for being old and white, and nobody has the experience or know-how to make it work without them.
>>714040672Not even that. If you read the artbook there's writing on it on how they came up with the show, and one of the rules outright was "no minecarts", by which they meant "we don't want to do clichés from previous adventure stories". Which is fine, whatever, except they didn't replace it with anything else. They basically did a "subvert your expectations" without anything to show for it
>>714041252I feel like it can be both things. Who would even decide on such a stupid rule except fresh faced new bloods who think they know better and don't understand how tension and excitement work?
>>714032660It really should have been LOT3C that got promoted instead, it would have done better with a target kid demographic
Arguably this move killed story-based shows at Disney
>>714031152>the only person capable of making Scrooge waste money is Fethry by annoying him so much he pay to send him to the other side of the globe This is canon to me now

>>714009162kinda funny none of grandma duck's children ever visited, only some of her grandchildren and people so far away in family tree.
>>714043191I think Donald would too, though in a more calculated, lower scale approach
He'd just get on Scrooge's nerves while on their adventures until Scrooge agreed to fund his frequent day trips to Brazil and Mexico to visit his friends if that got him gone for a bit. Though he needs his slave labor back by Monday, where with Fethry he hopes is gone for ages unless he needs Fethry's slave labor too

Any other countries where this phenomenon has happened? How successful have they been? I seriously can't remember a single fucking story by Kari Korhonen despite reading them through my childhood in the 90s/00s

BARKS OR ROSA?
Personally I prefer Barks. Rosa take the backstory stuff too seriously.

>>714065641Before the 80s, Disney films often got rolled into the Disney comics use. Mostly either as occasional standalone stories or sometimes with the rare interaction- I remember a story where the Big Bad Wolf (who himself was a recurring character) teams up with Captain Hook etc to rob the Witch from Snow White's broom; or stories of Captain Hook vs Moby Duck, etc. The mice from Cinderella were often shown living in Grandma Duck's farm and even had a story where they were Mickey sized.
Of all these though the most successful was the rolling of Mad Madam Mim. While all the others kept a certain air of "crossover", Mim, maybe through the obscurity of her movie appearance, and through the fact she got a TON of stories with characters like Magica, the Beagle Boys, the Phantom Blot, just became part of the setting integrally.
