It's like the Disney Ducks. Nothing about the present really matters since Donald, the nephews and Scrooge are just going to go on globetrotting adventures and get into hilarious fights with the Beagle Boys for eternity. Instead what people latch onto is Scrooge McDuck's life story up until the point of his first comic book appearance that was created because one Duck autist decided to assemble the various throwaway lines about Scrooge's past in Carl Bark comics into a coherent biography.
Nobody really gives a shit about "The Mario Timeline" beyond the pre-SMB1 events that form the backstory of Mario and DKC since you can easily just say that it all happens in release order beyond stuff like the Yoshi games forming half of that pre-SMB1 era alongside the Mario arcade games set in a city.
