Is it worth learning how to directional block i.e. parry in this game?
I cleared Surge 1 ignoring the jump/duck thing completely because it didn't provide much benefit for the added hassle. This directional block thing doesn't seem that useful either.

Sounds like a hassle. I wouldn't do it. Refund the game and sue the developer for being annoying.

You make it sound like it's some Sisyphean task to learn it. Just play the damn game and figure out whether it has any use.

I find it extremely fun and satisfying. It elevates the game hugely for me personally.

most of the bosses get pretty trivialized by it
I only ever used the jump/duck thing in Surge 1 on the spinning top guys in the final area (maybe in the DLC, I can't remember what was DLC for surge 1 and what was in Surge 2) but I used the directional block in Surge 2 constantly

but I try to use all the mechanics in a game on principle so whatever

I watched a vid of the Little Johnny fight w/ parry and it does easier than the way I did it using hit 'n' run tactic.

Obviously yes because this makes the game feel like you're dynamically fighting back against enemies and not just constantly jumping away and rolling on the floor like some little fromcuck bitch midget. That's all that matters.

These games are pretty underrated. I'd say if can get a feel for the block then practice it, but if it's not your playstyle don't force it cause you will die a lot.

Encounters/bossfights take fucking forever without it and really suck when they put you in hallways with nowhere to dodge.

Did anyone else use the 'show parry direction' booster?

Surge 1 might just be my favourite setting for soulslop games, absolutely top atmosphere. Surge 2 had some more fun weapons and fights, but the setting felt way more 'Borderlands' and I just can't stick to it as much

Surge 2 unironically has the best parry mechanics in a soulslop game

Is this like Metal Gear Rising? I found the clumsy parry really annoying in that game.

So if I were to parry, do I use a fast or heavy-hitting weapon? Do attack speeds affect parry at all?

Earlier soulsclones were absolute slop or the most innovative game you've ever played. Surge not only manages to have a single visual style but also a single take on souls combat. And it does so with a confusing but great level design.
