yeah that's the tragedy of berserk, that the whole sequence of events was kicked off by a misunderstanding that griffith was too proud to stop, that's why the behelit worked for him.

Griffith making a comment about only being able to respect people with their own goals, drive, and ambition, working towards what they want, rather following others, and guts hearing this and thinking this is what griffith really thought of him without understanding that guts was not included in this, an exception, if you want to see it that way, as he saw guts as a partner and comrade in this, not just someone to follow his orders, the only one he truly trusts.
guts then defeating him in the duel and striking out on his own crushed griffith, his world crumbled, the only person he thought he was in this with has left and shown him incompetent, it made him accelerate his plans due to his ego and feeling like he needs to prove himself and then these carefully laid plans all backfired.

guts feels responsible for what happened and is roped into it, feeling like he needs to undo what he helped griffith get to, yet it is all based on the misunderstanding.
neither of them wanted this to happen, both were very happy with how things were.

it is such a common media cliche yet its done so well as its completely within griffiths character to act like this and guts to not follow up on it. so much of guts' character arc involves him becoming a person who would have said something and resolved this problem before it began, the guts we see as the story progressed would not gotten into this situation.

it's truly a tragedy.

A story isn't just a beggining, middle and an end. It's how characters interact with each other, the expressions drawn of their faces, the paneling, how the story flows etc. Miura probably had a rough idea on the end of the story but how to get there is what matters, and since he's not here anymore no matter how well trained his successors are it's not his manga we're reading but a "what if". No need to be adversarial about it.
I also don't have much hopes considering the mastermind behind all this is the dude who made Holyland.

The flaw with the end of Millennium Falcon was keeping the party together. Farnese and Schierke overstayed their welcome as party members. I feel the main theme of the narrative is simple: struggle against adversity. Guts started doing that from the moment he was born off a hanged corpse. The theme would be pointless if it ended poorly, and Guts won't stop until his friends are all safe which won't happen with Fantasia ever expanding outwards threatening to consume the entire world under Griffith's rule. The Behelit Sword was introduced to make the Godhand vulnerable, and Moonlight Boy was introduced to make Griffith vulnerable. However the plot ends, I don't see the Godhand surviving. The Band of the Hawk will 100% be avenged.

I can't recall where I read it at this point but basically, since the story of the manga was an adaptation of "The Tournament at Sunpu Castle", it was supposed to continue with going into the story of all the fighters in the manga. Including spearbro, pacifist swordsman, the frog and the tomboy. In the book it eventually ends with Fujiki and co trying to quit with Tadanaga's insane tournament, and we know things did not end well for Tadanaga historically either.
This meant you'd get some in-depth "backstory" for all the fighters, probably being just as haunting as Seigen and Fujiki's, but the issue for Yamaguchi as far as I heard was that it was legitimately making him depressed to keep working on it.
I think ever since then his manga have been much happier in tone as a result.
