Baldur's Gate 3 is good for that. You even get a party, which lets you simulate playing with other people in an MMO. I liked BG3 a lot, as someone who played WoW in my youth.

You don't need to roll for a character even once, and still beat and complete whole game, which was done on youtube hundreds of times.

Just play the main story and have a fuckton of fun. Game has some really good epic scenes, and fights.

I understand him because i wanted this too. A game like WOW, big open world full of fun things to find, explore, quests to do, items to grind, but WITHOUT a fucking need to get 25 people to fight the raid boss, don't need to do dungeons with retards, without weekly locks (like you do Raid once, and you are locked from getting a loot for a week). A game where you don't have to minmax weeklies to not miss out on loot etc.

Not really, because openworld rpgs are often made to be played linearly. In MMO style games, the main quest is a sidequest. You don't give a fuck about it.
It's hard to describe it because the difference is very nuanced. You would have to play WOW for couple years to understand. It's like perfect RPG but shackled down by MMO mechanics.
If someone would just put more quality quests, more loot, legendaries but hard to obtain like Thunderfury, then it would be really perfect RPG. And probably that's what OP seeks.
That's why i double the Genshin recomendation. When i played it i felt like it's just like MMO but without MMO aspects.

most open world RPGs don't have the same gameplay as a MMO or allow you to raid dungeons with 24 companion NPCs. it's basically for people who like the gameplay and pace/grinding of MMOs but don't want to be reliant on other people for whatever reason. i like it because as i've gotten older i don't always have 8-12 uninterrupted hours to grind or raid or whatever so it's nice to not inconvenience 4/24 other people because i needed to go grab a snack or take a shit or i saw an interesting article and want to go down a rabbit hole for 15 minutes.

MMO downsides are:
>needing to interact with other people to get better gear
>needing to be a part of a guild in order to do raids
>needing to buy/sell items to other players in order to stay on top of the competition

Essentially, all the bad elements are the parts that force you to play with other human beings. Genshin's co-op mode is entirely optional. It's 100% single player with zero compromises for avoiding the multiplayer component.

yeah but the NPC companion/bot part is pretty janky, i have yet to find a good pack/bot module combo that woks well. it's all in chinese with half working features. my ideal would be leveling/gearing an entire 25-man group by myself with the 'bots' just being the AI controlling my other characters but i haven't found anything satisfactory for that either, questing with more than 1 character involves a lot of relogging for inventory management.

MMO downsides run much deeper than that
>completely unengaging pinata combat in order to accommodate netcode for 40 players at the same time
>areas, levels, progression, items, drops etc optimized for maximizing player subscription time rather than immersion or a vision
>ridiculously repetitive and unengaging quests lacking any creativity designed around movement/combat limitations of an MMO
>all important character interactions being reduced to "quest giver" or "boss pinata" etc
>so on and so forth

Gachashit is similarly not designed to be a soulful single player vision experience and is rather just an excuse to justify players paying to roll for characters, it feels like a single player MMO already without any of the upsides

Ideally you'd want something with the soulful visionary world and adventure design of classic JRPGs, with the scope and size of an MMO, but movement, combat, and interaction of Dragon's Dogma or BOTW, but since most games struggle with even one of those having all three is basically impossible

The whole issue nowadays is you need to be walking on eggshells with every single interaction or else you risk being perma-b& for wrongthink.

MMOs were once a bastion of free speech. We live in a post-free speech world, so MMOs cannot exist in any proper capacity anymore. Who wants to be on edge constantly when they're just trying to unwind after an exhausting day at work. MMOs used to offer a relaxing environment where you could shoot the shit with your buddies like you might in a night club or a pub irl. Now it's like being at work with the HR department closely examining everything you say and do.

So, Open-world Gachas essentially remove that concern entirely while keeping all the other parts that MMO addicts love fully intact. Progression feels so fucking good in MMOs and no other genre can compete aside from gacha.

Looks nice until you realise there is nothing in there except for random chest puzzles. This isn't like Skyrim where you might find some cool loot or a unique enemy or some interesting questline, or GW2 where meta-events can lead to cool map changes, the way that Genshin seperates vertical progression entirely behind the gacha and artifacts means that the world is largely pointless beyond being a showcase for your anime characters to play around with. There is no real sense of wonder once you realize how painfully limited the game actually is in the variety of enemies and weapons.

No i love ES but i kind of have to agree. ES benefits mostly from Lore + choices on gameplay. The actual environments don't really wow the same way seeing Ironforge or the Frozen Citadel the first time did. It's mostly down to art style desu, more realisitic art makes it harder to actually look otherworldy.

not sure about that because paradoxically having obiouvlsy AI stuff like that can make the game feel like it has less souls, more fake, and randomly generated so lower quality content, so for a big clean AAA I dont know. but for india AA experimental shit, OK.

now for wandering NPCs with more complex behaviors, perosnality like you sya, the way they do things, the agressiveness, greed, risk taking etc, bonding with other characters, remembering stuff, this is very promising

but to some extent you could do that right now with programming. the problem with AI is that it cannot explain its behavior, its kindoff a mimicking philosophical zombie, theres no actual process with logic etc, it just copies.

how is oblivion generic? the faces ar eunlike any other game, even the visual with flowers trees etc, the topography, colours, is unlike any other game

what is this meme with oblivion being generic? there isnt a single game that looks like oblivion, its one of the least visually generic fantasy open worlds

i mean yeah its a forest but the lokl itself of the game is very particular, the layout of the terrain, the flowers, the grass, the colours the lightning etc. whats the problem with a forest being a forest anyway.

id rather have a good well executed forest than someone relying on "exotic" "creative" shit like big mushrooms with funny colours which tendfs to limit the quality of the execution or dismiss the fract that it should look nice, or its just cheap shock value

Morrowind is Eastern Plaguelands/Zangarmarsh
Oblivion is Elwynn Forest
Skyrim is Borean Tundra + parts of Dragonblight
I thought about giving Skyrim Howling Fjord + Grizzly Hills but no.... I honestly can't think of anything in Skyrim environment wise as cool as the Alliance boat ride into Howling fjord.

more like you dont have the eye to tell stuff, sucks for u. oblivion has many idfferent places that look different in subtles ways that arnt vulgar enough to trigger your primitive brain. again layout, distribution of types of grass the shadowing etc. oblivion still looks really good and especially unlike anything else the art direction and lightning for characters is unique. as for most bethesda games is rather unequal, you have to wander to see some good spots. its not a constant in your face shower sure. but id be eager to know which other games you rthink look so similar or so much better

but again maybe you just dont have the sense. yet or forever

>aka, a cool RPG (or at least RPG-esque) game where I can create a character and explore a massive, beautiful, varied world with lots of things to find and do

>try baldur's gate 3, a crpg-style game with many small interconnected levels
>try genshin impact, where there's a big open world with fucking nothing to do in it

kek. OP the truth is that people who make threads like this have usually played the games that'll capture the feeling you want. But here are my recommendations
>tainted grail, fall of avalon
Recently released and already been patched to shit. Arthurian Legend made spooky, it's a first-person fantasy RPG. Explore the world, buy a house and live there, find cool shit. slightly janky spooky skyrim.

some of the armour sets you can find or craft or earn remind me of 2000s MMO edgelord sets
>dragon age inquisition
A meme at this point but it has a passable story and "fine" action-rpg gameplay. Use mods to remove timers/limitations that block main quest progress in vanilla. You now have an extremely vast, very varied, quite pretty fantasy world to explore with an insane amount of content in a cool setting.
>oblivion remastered
people have such retarded takes on it, but if you didn't play the original scoop this up and have fun. it's a big fantasy world you can immerse yourself in.

Why not just pirate it and play it offline on your gaming rig like everyone else in this thread? The game is amazing as fuck. You only pretend to hate it because it suits your agenda.

And while you're at it, play Wuthering Waves (Genshin's direct competitor) and the upcoming Azur Promila, Ananta, and NTE too. All of these games do what OP is asking for better than ANYTHING else on the market. This is coming from a massive fan of Xenoblade X, btw.
