That's not how it will work. Either they release a patch, or the server code, or some other method, or just put a sticker on the box warning that it's only renting access to a server instead of buying a product.

PC fanboys are the most cancerous fanbase of gaming, what did you expect? They have an advertising spam campaign going on and they have these low quality threads. Uniquely, they're all deranged Europeans and PCMR fanboys.

All devs need to do is give the ability for players to run local servers when their games goes EoS. That's it.

companies put their eula on their websites, you choosing not to read it before buying is your fault, not theirs, and besides if it turns out it contains something you disagree with, you can just refund it before you invest your time and energy into the game
>nobody reads those anyway
>willfully choosing not to read the eula is somehow the company's fault
this is why your movement will fail, you're a child throwing a tantrum, all anyone will ever do in response is laugh at you, seethe harder

The worst-case scenario here is that the EU legitimizes the concept of abandonware which is currently a legal grey area in that it's technically illegal but difficult enough to argue in court that it wasn't worth suing for
If the official ruling is that live-service going EOL is counted as abandonware which can then be freely re-distributed or modified without consumers having to be concerned about copyright laws regarding copy-protection, it'd make it very very easy for publishers to sue anyone who shares or cracks any non live-service games including ancient back catalog stuff

I thought the deal was to just give players the means to self host servers or give in any other capacity the ability/tools for players to keep playing online even after the official servers are shut down.

The scope is too narrow. The EU is a trade organisation. The regulations are to stop corpos from cannibalising themselves.
