This would put it around the time facerig was first really taking off and getting demo'd, before even channels like kizuna ai nevermind hololive. nobody would know who pekora is from this image if you could time travel back then.
that said, I'd just assume it's a crossover with kantai collection or one of those other early gachas. doubt I'd believe it's real, but mostly because there's no attempt to make one feel like it's part of the other's world. without context it does come across as a photoshopped meme after all.

I'm so used to seeing the phrase "If you told someone years ago" that I just glazed over the actual number. I was assuming four or five.

Do you ever feel like Kojima just hit it big because he was one of the first pioneers in the stealth genre and games with lots of cutscenes and high production values, and that he's just been coasting off that for like 20 years at this point? And we just have to treat him as an auteur because most other people in his position moved up to producer/exec level and had other directors take over?

Like Miyamoto had enough sense to just find people already experienced with making films and amusement parks to let them handle Mario and Zelda's multimedia expansion. If he was going around hiring Pedro Pascal to voice and mocap Mario in the games proper we'd correctly think of him as insane.

15 years ago, we used to have fake images of Steam's front page, sprinkled with porn games.
Now I can open the Anime page on the steam sale and see mainstream games from large publishers listed alongside lolige, nukige and visual novels. It's wild.
