Sucks for them, but people are always going to go with something that's cheap, easy, and close to just as good. Many don't have income enough to hire someone, nor knows how to navigate contracts and intellectual rights and how they are allowed to use voice lines they paid for etc.
It's scary and fuckton of work sometimes. ESPECIALLY when you need additional voicelines for your spontaneous mod because it isn't like you make a design document for it.

I'm always for hiring actual VAs etc. but it can be fucking scary and stressful if you aren't familiar with industry and payment standards. Or legal documents. You would need an expert for that which can just make it even more of a hassle, all because you wanted to make a mod for a game you like.

Their voices don't even need to be "stolen" for generation, you can just create a new character with some totally AI generated voice or based on public domain voices and once it is established people will be used to it and forget these faggots exist.
Also eliminates any risk of them dying or drama where they decide they'll demand ten times the pay for the sequel because now the company is stuck with them.

Most indie games don't have voice acting to begin with and many AAA games use it sparingly so being able to do it all through AI is a win-win for both gamers and developers.
