It depends on the lines and the type of game. If you're doing a story based game the AI shit is going to sound real flat and dead. If it's some vendor selling misc crap in an indie survival game? I'm not sure it maters.

Voice actors refuse to work on my project where Claire eats out Sherry, so now AI will do it and they won't get paid. Sucks for them, but people are always going to go with something that's cheap, easy, and close to just as good. Depending on the model, your skill level, and the commitment of the actor you would have hired, AI might even be better. An AI Dinklage probably wouldn't literally phoned in his lines because "its just a game".

Modders make their mods for free.
Many don't have income enough to hire someone, nor knows how to navigate contracts and intellectual rights and how they are allowed to use voice lines they paid for etc.
It's scary and fuckton of work sometimes. ESPECIALLY when you need additional voicelines for your spontaneous mod because it isn't like you make a design document for it.

I'm always for hiring actual VAs etc. but it can be fucking scary and stressful if you aren't familiar with industry and payment standards. Or legal documents. You would need an expert for that which can just make it even more of a hassle, all because you wanted to make a mod for a game you like.

90% of these voice actors are hacks and it is the characters they play that made their voice famous not the other way around. As much as I hate artists i'd actually consider these guys even less talented.
Their voices don't even need to be "stolen" for generation, you can just create a new character with some totally AI generated voice or based on public domain voices and once it is established people will be used to it and forget these faggots exist.
Also eliminates any risk of them dying or drama where they decide they'll demand ten times the pay for the sequel because now the company is stuck with them.

Most indie games don't have voice acting to begin with and many AAA games use it sparingly so being able to do it all through AI is a win-win for both gamers and developers.

Japanese AI voices are 10 times more accurate and natural sounding than English ones, and they've had it for decades. They even have AI idols like Hatsune Miku, yet their VA industry is larger and more popular than the English one. Frankly, if the mod or product is free, then using AI voice is ok in my books. If Ranni's VA has given her voice to the games, then it's ok to use her voice for mods. The most problems AI have is, if someone isn't a public speaker, has given their voice to something more private and then they're used for public AI projects.

No VA besides Ranni's VA can make similar enough voice, the AI with its current flaws does it better. Amateur VA can have bad voice acting and shitty recording quality.
