Maple 2 died because it had no real clue what it wanted to be, it didn't know if it wanted to focus on the social user created content part or to just be a shitty nostalgia grab for Maplestory (which makes no sense because Maplestory is still alive and kicking). This got even worse when the game started out as more of an open ended experience like Maple was and then just decided fuck it have a shitty main story you have to go through.
Kartrider Drift died because it was just worse than the original game it was replacing (less content, worse physics). People just wanted the original game back and so they canned it and announced Kart Rider Classic will be coming back.

The problem is those are new projects trying to recapture the magic of the old games and failing at it. Mabinogi Eternity isn't a new game it's just a facelift of the existing game so it doesn't really run into that issue. Maplestory and DFO (at least in korea) are still going strong for a reason.

I've been having fun playing Rogue Trader, before that I loved Expedition 33, Exp 33 gave me the amazing story experience that I got from Shadowbringers and Endwalker and sorely missed in Dawntrail.
My recommendation to you, and you won't want to hear it is to ween yourself off MMOs and play single player games, play your backlog, see what else is out there, hell take this as an opportunity to play older FF games if you haven't played them, FF4-10 still are very much worth playing and if you get the Pixel remasters it's worth playing FF1 to see where it all started.

There is too much time inconvenience in FF16 that is directly taken from FF14. Having to return to the quest giver to complete a quest for example, such a small thing but it means you have to go through usually 2 loading screens at least to complete 1 quest.
The quest design itself is straight up boring FF14 quests even in the main story.
If anyone has played FF16 you remember having to get the gatepass for Goetz? Absolutely unnecessary and all to pad the play time.
YoshiP thinks longer time = value at least that's the impression he gives with his games.
Sometimes it's preferable especially in a single player rpg game to have a 20-30 hour game than a 60 hour game if those 60 hours are full of bad pacing and boring shit that should not be in a single player game.

You have to if you want to complete Fork Tower, it requires voice communication that FF14 doesn't have. You can't pug it.

Yoshit's problem is that he's been sanding away at the game for a while. ARR dungeon's at least had some unique mechanics to them in dealing with bosses which broke up the monotony of slap thing ass for 7 minutes. But as we go on it's just avoid line aoe, avoid round AOE, avoid cone AOE, stand in place to not die. With trusts he removed those and trusts shouldn't be in this game the roulettes solve the issue of new players not getting gated from old content, this further islands players. He sanded down crafting by just boosting EXP and making areas to just hit omni crafter versus actually grinding that shit out so there's no longer any need for people to interact with each other to get gear or talk trading, melding, or repair, once again isolating the playerbase. Every change made to XIV seems to further alienate and isolate players from each other when this is the last thing you want for your MMO to live.

I think they stuff like the void is better when most of it is still mysterious and we don't know the full story like we do now with the 13th. I actually think they include players who watch ultimates in the participation rate. It's an MMO, things people participate in outside the game about the game still matter to the devs.
That said, they still shouldn't just remove stuff because interaction is too low. They really have a problem with dropping shit instead of looking at how to rework it to be more enjoyable and increase player interaction with it. I think at that point the best we could do as players is is make a proposal for how the content could mechanically change to make it more appealing, then try to gain popularity on that idea so the devs can see it. It's what I'm trying to do for Squadrons.

I don't disagree with people getting their Ultimate but that isn't content that was interesting to me.
Hardmode dungeons is where I most fell in love with the content of this game, I love the story but the content itself never clicked for me until the hardmode dungeons and it did have a lot of participation it's just a lot of loud content creators who are raiders did not like that content and so it was dropped because they were listened to.
It's harder to track and give percentages because the content where hardmode dungeons exist is still old, but I would bet my account on it being larger than 5% of the player base participated.

dungeons aren't the issue. people were chainrunning ARF for tomes back in the day. its that mmo players would smash their hands with a hammer if it got them more exp/hr. there's only two ways to fix this:

On one hand, I'm kind of glad I've been freed from the wheel. I log in a couple of hours a week to knock out Savage reclears with frens and speedrun tomes. While there are things I could still do the game, the consistent feeling of "needing" to play has been broken. It's allowed me to enjoy other games and play FFXIV when I truly feel like it.

But on the other hand, it's kinda sad how DT killed my FC. Vast majority stopped playing once they finished 7.0. The couple of patch hoppers we have will most likely play a few days after the new patch drops before disappearing again. But there's honestly been zero hype or discussion from anyone even though 7.3 is a little over a month away. Even with new treasure maps coming out (which everyone really liked), I highly doubt 75% of our missing players will come back.

They've got to be kidding with this pricing? Not even a full set option either it's all separate.
