Physics is difficult to code around.
You can either spend years achieving a proper sense of balance and Inertia with dynamic swordplay where your blade don't go through objects and can hit different hitbox. Painfully working out a first person camera that give immersion without frustration

...or you can just code a spherical hitbox, make your character POW a point moving in a 3D space, and a 3rd person camera so you never have to care about what the character look at when dancing around with any weapons, just treated as +10 damage AoE
