I played darktide a lot the past couple of weeks. Got good enough that auric maelstrom difficulty turned into a joke but repeatedly got my ass whooped on havoc 20+. I got into a fight with a guy in the team and stopped playing it. I wish I had friends to play havoc with.

To be completely honest, videogames are still fun, it's just that I don't have any much time to dedicate to them as possible.
I do feel that games like Death Stranding 2 are utterly bewildering. I'm curious as to who actually enjoyed that one, since the gameplay seemed so rudimentary.

Problem is that nowadays marketing is so full of obviously staged bullshots and cinematic trailers that you can easily tell that they don't have anything fun to show off.
Videogames on the whole are still fun, but you need to be more judicious with where you spend your money and where to withhold it. In the age of digital distribution, there is no shortage of games to find and play.
I'm not saying you need to be full on cynic, but keep some healthy skepticism when a game is so brazenly framed as "omg its the latest fun thing" that shows zero gameplay.

10 years ago. Modern gaming just isn't for me. Just watched a video on '90s fighting game series I've never played (but had heard of) and it looked really fun. The art style of the era is some much more to my liking as well. Also bought a few '90s classics recently for single player, VS and coop fun.

I don't think I would say I keep my expectations low, instead I don't have them so high to a point that I might lose interest in trying a game. I believe Death Stranding 2 would be a good example, I haven't played 1 and I'm interested in buying it, many will say how it's nothing but a walking simulator, but what I've seen looks interesting enough for me to give it a chance because I want to be the one to form my own opinion about the game. On the other hand there's Wukong, the gameplay looks very boring for such an overhyped game and it never caught my attention when there are so many other Soulslike and action games out there that do a way better job, like Sekiro.

I can never tolerate owlcat games. After completing kingmaker, I realized that it was the worst kind of blatant power fantasy with horrible writing.

Games were fun from 6 to 19, then I didn't like them from 19 to 27, Now they, and everything else in life, is fun again (27 to 31)
The reality is you were able to enjoy games as a kid because you had no financial burden, stress, and responsibilities. Also most likely your pleasure receptors weren't fried.

Figure out money (a good 1 or 2 years worth of your living expense in your bank account), Shelter (ideally a house with low mortgage but nice apartment is fine too), health (don't be fat, workout at least 3-4 times a week, eat only meat veggies and fruits, no alcohol, cigarette, coffee, sugar, drugs, or at least try to keep them as once a week treats), and no stress.

Once you've done all that, I recommend booking a vacation to a cabin or beach for a week with nothing but creative things like woodworking, drawing tool, instruments, etc.
No books, no games, no phone or tablet, the most bland food you can. Shit will reset your brain to feel pleasure from hearing wind in the leaves.

Watch as you magically start to enjoy things again because you've basically recreated the lifestyle of a child.

I will admit I do miss the easy mode of being college age and having a massive amount of online friends all up around the same time and playing games etc. Even if it was just community server gaming buddies.

Sadly, that's not as ridiculous as it sounds, especially nowadays when a lot of people have to work 2 jobs just to make meets end and have enough money to pay rent for their "study apartment". And I'm sure most 30+ year olds here won't let me lie, things were way better when we were teens, we lived through an era of almost perfect stability and back then owning a house was not only a dream to achieve, but an almost guaranteed fact in life.

Things are just very different and are definitely getting worse for everyone, even the 10's weren't as bad as the 20's have been so far, and we're only halfway through the decade.

The issue isn't that a person doesn't have free time or that you can't do whatever you want with that time as an adult. The problem is getting everyone to have the same free time on the same day.
once you start to +1 in some kids, wife and a range of hobbies your gaming time start to decline to almost nothing. The only way to combat it is the pick up hoop style of solution.

Games are still fun. You just gotta move the games aside that try to be the next big hit, and find the games that are made as passion projects. I am not defending either of these examples, but I'd rather play Undertale over Call of Duty. A game that's made for the sake of being fun will always be enjoyable, while a game made specifically to make money will stop being fun very quickly.

30+ here - when your life sucks, games stop being fun - you're an adult now, you're supposed to take care of yourself & your environment. I can honestly enjoy vidya to this day, as long as there aren't any things to do. If there are, I'm just stressing that the chores or whatever are being put off - do the thing, play games.

Also you need people for your mental health - if you haven't spoken to anybody or haven't had the most basic company in ages, that will impact you, and your enjoyment of vidya.

Have been expanding my tastes lately and I'm currently enjoying 3D platformers, rogue like games and Metroidvanias, I just recently completed Guacamelee 2 Complete, Super Lucky Tale and Turok.

I'm currently playing some PS+ games Team Sonic Racing and Sandland.

Also have a massive backlog of games, I really need to stop buying games LMAO.

Thinking on playing Thymesia or Another Crab's Treasure when I'm done with the current games

Kinda want to get a Switch 2 but shit's too expensive, Mario Kart and Donkey Kong Bananza looks great tho , a shame that the new Fromsoftware game is multiplayer.
