But Blasphemous 1 made it pretty clear The Miracle was a creation of the High Wills. Even the golden baby reinforces this. The DLC basically just expanded on The High Wills which were that it was just some random being that took a trip to heaven somehow and attained godhood leading to the formation of the church based around the Twisted One and the torture.

It wasn't until Blasphemous 2 reared its head and went "Uh, actually The High Wills are The Miracle, somehow The Miracle returned, it birthed the Antichrist, and actually Heaven just sort of farted around watching the Penitent One save everyone". The game outright states Heaven and the beings in Heaven are just and righteous and that the Penitent One set Cvstodia back to its rightful course. The Penitent One is Jesus, it's established both in 1 and especially 2 since in both 1 and 2 he takes the sins of Cvstodia and of The Miracle and gives everyone salvation. It's not. The "blasphemy" of the game is turning against what is basically Satan and saving humanity from continuing to worship Satan because from that perspective you are "blaspheming". You are essentially playing as Jesus and redeeming everyone's souls. It's a love letter to the Spanish Catholicism the devs grew up in and a critique on the papacy, the Vatican, and an exploration on how worship of a religion looks like to an outsider in an extreme setting such as this where people are praying to a "god" that tortures them for fun.

It's like saying Black Book is blasphemous because you play a woman who pledges her soul to a demon when the game itself was made by a Russian Orthodox Christian. It's entirely based around the time period in real life where Russian pagan worship intersected with Christianity similar to how the Norse Vikings and Christians intersected having people believe in two separate things at the same time before ultimately becoming fully Christian and how both sides were at odds with each other. Black Book even has the MC and her tutor both be Christians who are terrified of their souls being sent to Hell despite loving God but turn to using demonic magic to save everyone from demons.

It was all over the place because it was mostly because of the pope's orders. The monks being imprisoned and tortured for blasphemy was primarily on the pope's orders while the other heads of the church were infighting for various positions. Everything to do with Esdras being borderline insane and Crisanta also being extremely nuts was because of The Miracle tricking Esdras after his sister found out the truth about it and Crisanta literally had her mind wiped by it. The fact that you have to have an elemental weapon to hit ghosts and the only elemental weapons are 15+ levels below you at best is astoundingly bad design. I have no idea what they were thinking with that DLC, the only thing I've encountered as bad as it is Blue Sun in Hellpoint which is outright impossible if you're past NG. Fear literally two-shots you in his opening intro before you can even move sometimes even in NG+ and has attacks that have no downtime and hit you while you are still mid roll, it's insanely bad. The mansion boss can't even be beaten on NG+ outside of exploiting the radiation DoT because it one-shots you and has so much health it is not feasible to out-DPS it before you get hit.

Problem with mainstream american protestants is what we call charismatic preaching, where pastors use cult of personality to get their members to become fanatics. I have seen many local pastors here who study in america and adopt this kind of doctrine to grow their church only for it to end up being a cult in all but name. So many also teach very fatalistic dogma. i.e. dont bother improving or seeking help for your troubles because God will provide/take it away.
