How do i start the dlc stuff? They seemed cool so far but i'm in act II and still didn't get the companion guy.

TLDR: 6.5/10 quite mid DLC, Solomon is boring, companion pets are okay, reactivity leaves much to be desired, new bosses are fun, Overseer is fun

Okay so I made it all the way to Act 5 with Solomon. Played everything Lex Imperialis had to offer, and I have to say it was disappointing. Compared to Void Shadows quality, this new DLC is pretty weak. Solomon introduction was that interesting or shocking as Kibbles introduction, I wasn't very excited to meet the Adeptus Arbites companion at all.
Solomon’s personality is flat, boring even, and sorely lacks the nuance or inner conflict that made companions like Pasqal and Argenta stand out. His VA isn't that great either, he is just a generic white guy with a black paint job.
When compared to Kibbles he gets overshadowed greatly, "Domin".
His companion quest is equally underwhelming, offering few surprises and little in the way of emotional or thematic payoff. His reason to spy on you are simple "I was told to do so", again no personality. There is barely any reactivity from other companions on his quest and doesn't integrate very well with the main story. It was too short to or felt like that, since most of the time Solomon was gone doing who knows what and he just shows up later.
Despite all that, the new encounters were fun but not very challenging, I liked the first boss the most.
My thoughts on the Overseer class, It's fun but not viable in higher difficulties. This game is designed around rolling initiative first and nuking everyone on the screen before it gets a chance to act and do the same to you. Tanks are not useful at all, and the shield doesn't make them survive long either.
The Coomrag torture for Solomon was fine tho.

Right away, Lord Captain. Though I have not finished it yet, so it will only be a partial report.
Solomorne is a better character than kebab, but she's not a character so it's not a high bar. Take it as you will.
The two missions that I've played were very good. While they feel a less integrated than Void Shadows just by virtue of taking place on some planets instead of your ship where you spend most of the game, they clearly had a lot of care and attention put into. Same goes for the new Archetype. It's obvious the devs had fun working on it and that's always good

I turned Pasqal into an Overseer to play around with the new class and because a swarm of servo skulls seemed like a fitting choice for a magos but honestly he's done nothing since then. His impact on combat as a level 25 Overseer is the same as it was at level 15 of Operative. I have no idea how this class is supposed to be useful in any way whatsoever
Maybe I just picked the worst choice with the servo skulls. I guess I will wait and see what Solomorne and his mastiff are like before I make my final judgment

Servo skull is the worst pet. I have no idea how to use it to any good effect.
The dog is second worst. It is fun to knock enemies prone but underwhelming damage wise.
Psyber raven is very strong for applying party wide buffs and debuffs on enemies. Literally designed with Idira in mind.
Eagle is the strongest and overpowered as hell. Becomes unkillable and its area attack does high damage. I made Cassia an overseer so that she can finally have a pet bird.

The main problem with this game is that the combat is fucking boring, even for a TB enjoyer like myself, because it doesn't feel like you're making decisions.

What the combat feels most like, is a card game, where you can build your deck the way you want and always draw the same opening hand, with that opening hand always being a one-turn-victory. So every single fight is exactly the same, it doesn't even feel like playing a game.
They try to get around this by making fights with phases, or triggered immunities that force fights to take more than 1 round, but that's just lame.

There are too many ways to do a million damage in one turn in this stupid combat system.
To make it even worse, building characters and leveling is fucking boring as well. We have all these hundreds of talents are not only extremely specific, but also completely fucking pointless; I don't even really level 4 of my companions after act 3, because they never get to do anything anyway. I just pick whatever talent happens to be at the top of the list and go with that, it literally doesn't matter.

The pathfinder games are the same way; the combat is fucking boring, because you just do the same exact overpowered shit in every single fight. Just buff your OTK-guy and then OTK the entire screen. You got all these stats and talents and classes, and it doesn't matter; it's all a mirage, just completely pointless and a waste of your time to read or think about.

The combat may as well only be there in these titles so that they don't get classified as point-and-click games.

you're exaggerating but correct in a way, the problem just boils down to: RT is too easy. I don't agree PF is the same way, because the difficulty is higher and characters are less powerful relative to the enemies.
In early- through mid-game PF your characters can simply get oneshotted or CC'd into uselessness sometimes, in lategame enemies have huge stats that can still put up some fight.
In RT you can clear the screen with like one or two characters, let alone your whole party.

If they just made the game harder and had some more interesting encounters it'd be fine.

In PF there's a trillion options so unless you're like me and actually know the system by heart from playing tabletop, you probably have to look up builds to make something powerful. In RT character building is very easy so you stumble into broken builds by playing normally. Literally, just by using the abilities the game gives you, normally, as intended.

It makes replaying the game a nightmare since the combat is so trivial and pointless that there's no fun to be had in doing so, hell, there was barely any fun to be had in playing through it the first time it became so dull and banal.

All these fucking Owlcat apologists are lying through their teeth when they claim it's not an issue with the game, and no, you don't have to try super hard to do some obtuse build or some shit to break the combat in this game, on fucking Unfair if you have half a brain in how you built your characters and selected your items, everything facing your party becomes absolute cannon fodder by mid act 2 at the latest. It's why I can't ultimately recommend the game to anyone, the story and characters are fun, but when the core gameplay and combat is so utterly terrible, who cares?

If I want a game where the combat is played for me, I'd replay Unicorn Overlord, at least then I get to look at beautiful art and I actually have real character building decisions to make on top of it.

People have been leveling this criticism against the game since it was released, back then it was "just don't roll Officer, just don't use Arch Militant, just don't use Bounty Hunter, just don't use Idira, etc." as people kept finding ways to easily crush the game, regardless of class. It's an intrinsic issue that cannot be solved by adjusting one class here or there, or ignoring it for that matter. The problem is not the class balance or doing some specific combo, the combat in and of itself is badly designed and needs to be redone.

I'm the same, but accidently stumbling into an OP build is too easy in Rogue Trader. Unless you actively gimp yourself, or are actually clinically retarded and just pick only weapon proficiencies or something, your characters are going to be insanely powerful compared to the enemy. As the other tranon said, they try to sidestep this by adding invulnerability phases, or Larian gimmick fights that catch you off guard the first time and but after that it's easy, but it's not enough.

I think the biggest issue is that you can do too much too soon while you only fight a couple of tough enemies at a time that are surrounded by useless mobs. They could just give bosses lair/legendary actions, but I think a better solution would be to just add more enemies and make the grunts actually a bit of a threat. The fact that every single fight boils down to bumrushing the boss, and then slowly picking off the stragglers in the corners of the map sucks. If there was a secondary factor at play like the ground mechanics in Divinity 2, or maybe 3-way fights with 40 somewhat difficult opponents, that would be great. But every fight is just you running in and obliterating everybody in one turn. And if the enemy does get a move, they'll probably spend it shooting their teammates.

Yeah the system is a bit too simplified. There needs to be more mechanical depth going forward. Equipment that can only be used by very specific class combos, better out of combat depth besides the, like what, 6 stats in the game? More ways to set up fights with sneaking or traps, less action spam and more of a focus on difficult decision-making.

No, you get more from some warp events and at a point you can get free +50 by choosing Cassia as one of your companions during Coronation event at the end of Act 2

Yeah I really don't like the combat either. For me it comes down to three main issues: firstly it's impossible to remember what even triggers the million conditional passives you have from all your equipment and talents, so you never feel their impact.

Secondly there's just too much fucking shit to click on your turn. You get like 6 AP and can only make one attack so have to spend most of it clicking three self-buff abilities every turn, it's just tedious.

Thirdly the combat encounters aren't connected at all, your state resets almost completely between them. In games like BG1/2 even if you win an encounter you might win flawlessly, or barely scrape through with half health and barely any spell slots left. What this does is ensure there's always a challenge even if the encounter isn't likely to kill you. Without it, any encounter you have a =>70% chance of winning is basically a chore, and that's most encounters in virutally all RPGs including Rogue Trader.

I know traumas exist to address this, but they can be healed instantly and again they don't really feel impactful anyway.

Not that they will, but this is what I'd like to see for the next game:
>scrap AP and just have one move, one use and one attack action on each turn

Grand Strategist is the most useful by far for Cassia.
Cassia acting first means you have a very easy time instantly debuffing enemies with a Castigating Staff + Waking Nightmare, movement skills and also buffing allies through Infusing + Reveal the Light & Mend Reality AND dealing damage + stunning enemies what with her Lidless Stare. Lastly with Decisive Response from Overseer she can also buff one ally + grant them an Extra Turn at just 1 total AP cost
She doesn't need the extra damage from Master Tact and she won't have the space for any MT or Overseer Powers since she wants more Navigator Powers & Talents
And yeah it also combos amazingly with Grand Strat Pasqal

Both Nav Powers + Talents, it's why Grand Strat is so good for her since the benefit of always acting first is a passive you gain instantly.
And trust me, Initiative in this game is so absurdly random, that acting first is a massive tactical advantage, especially on an Officer like Cassia who can grant Extra Turns so it's not just her acting first.
Just remember to give her Decisive Response asap from Officer, she doesn't need any other Officer Talents or Powers.
