Why is Half-Life so popular? I am 8 hours into Black Mesa and it's just shooting and some puzzles.

99.99% shooting and ZERO story. What a game.

Only interesting thing is a man walking with a suitcase at the beginning of the game.

I'm not even trying to bait or anything, but it's just pure shooting and the shooting isn't even that good.

bro how is this franchise so popular when its sub-par shooting gameplay only? does it become absolute cinema in the last 2 hours? even so it doesnt justify it being ASS the first 8 hours of the game.

From my experience, as someone obsessed with cool "government high tech, secret, Area 51, aliens, science experiments, etc" shit, I feel like it is the only game that gave me that experience. I think it is a very immerisve cool game, and I am glad it is a cult classic
But to be brutally honest, even as a shooter its not that great. Shooting doesn't feel good. I didn't like it even in Half Life 2 which is even more hype.

Half Life games just have a great world building through its environment and atmosphere, but not much else. Much like Doom has absolutely nothing for you if you don't find shooting demons appealing.
