Some argue 7th gen was the peak of gaming and everything after was downhill.
Some argue that the 7th gen was.the beginning of the end and the start of the ugliest practices of gaming.

Everyone can agree after the 7th gen, gaming only got worse.

7th gen was the start of the decline. The early hype was amazing, I remember that much but then when the actual games came out there were a lot of these mix reception games from big time devs and AAA companies. 1 or 2 games would be fine but it felt like the whole generation was like this.

I love gen 7 but peak was probably gen 5 or 6

The remasters of that gen were truly awful... but they actually havent gotten better either.

As for the MUH CUTSCENES shit, what are you referring to? Mgs4? It was the conclusion to long running narratively driven series its pretty justified and anyway it only got really cutscene heavy in the second half. Other than that, i dont think 7th gen games were over dependent on cutscenes and dialogue. I genuinely dont remember a lot of god of war 2018 esque walking sim type of shit on ps3 or 360

It was that plus Sony advertising their games as "games that play like movies" phase. Where they had all these AA and AAA games that looked liked shovelware stuffed QTEs to pretend like it was a game. This was when the "movie game" meme would take roots.
