Would the patch have gone over better if FT was a normal mode instead of what we have now? Keep the entrance way the same and make the difficulty around DRN/CLL. Feels to me that with that, the whole OC grind would have a nice capstone, and the weather popping would actually be a nice break from the CE farm.

I find the dooming really funny because the last time I played was pre-EW and class homogenization was way fucking worse back then, to mention one thing. I remember the AST rework in particular.

Well that's a down right reasonable expectation. Really though it's hard to say. It's not impossible by any means, it really just needs them to set up a good story and make sure to promise a decent amount of post-patch content.
Getting patch cycles back under control and getting some of that content out earlier aren't really necessary even if it'd be preferred. I'm otherwise not really sure what to say for 'options' specifically though.

FT is not even mechanically hard, they could make it relatively puggable by removing the death limit and ress restriction, make it so that if you wipe you respawn inside the tower until people voluntarily leave or a timer runs out, and off you go.
You'd have to do the NA special and place markers to make sure you have enough people to soak towers and I guess you'd have to ress cheese your way through Holy Lance at the end, but it could be done.

The game has literally never been in a perfect condition. There has never been a state of 'Nothing wrong' with XIV and anyone who says otherwise is blind.
But most of the stuff currently happening isn't even that bad. The patch plots have potential to recover 7.0's fumble well enough to passable and the content so far is acceptable. Chaotic was an 'interesting' experiment and I wish they hadn't been so stupid as to release it on fucking Christmas. But then maybe if they're sticking their head up their asses and focusing on Japan it means that they've tossed some of the western influence. Won't know for certain on that until fanfest honestly.

It was never 'too hard' for me, it was just the fact that the job rotations felt very bland and samey. The gameplay at its core lacked something to make it enjoyable to me. When you run ultimate or savage or anything you're usually starting with trial and error. And your tools to employ during the fight are actually really limited if you think about it.
You have your mit. You have your GCDs. You have a few heals or debuffs to try with the boss. Maybe some interrupts. That's it. And popping pots mid fight is kind of a buzz-kill.
It feels extremely restrictive in a weird way and that really brings my ability to enjoy the combat to near zero.
I only enjoy myself with friends, and they've all quit the game by now. So if I subbed and played solo I would just hate it.

I don't vibe with the gotcha nature of fights, meaning I will always have to study beforehand. Honestly, if you go blind into content and you don't even understand why you died because the mechanics vomit has become too convoluted, it is a game design issue. World first fags have entire teams reviewing their footage to find out what happened. Body checks are another thing I abhor and are the pinnacle of artificial difficulty in this game.

It's not too bad, some of the movement has tight timing so it'll depend on what types of content you've done so far, if you've done some of the recent final savage floors on patch, the final trios feel somewhat similar in the sense that every player gets a thing and you have to know your movement pattern for each different thing you can get.
If you're not against simulators, you can sim every mechanic and reach the final phase very well-prepared. DPS checks are not an issue unless you have to chain ress people in the final phase, and if you PF, unlike savage prog you'll probably get people with 100+ kills joining your PF when you're about to clear so you'll have very reliable teammates.

Ideally you'd do it with 8 people, but if that's not an option you can just turn invincibility on and "pretend" you're doing each of the combinations you can get. It won't resolve the mechanic quite right but the idea is to learn the movement, together with visual aid from a guide. If you're EU, the LPDU visual guide for UWU is really well made.
And don't get discouraged, early prog is by far the worst part, you'll get all the people that are just trying out ultimate for the first time after unsyncing kefka, wait times in pf will be long since not that many people want to start from scratch, but as you progress and especially when you're nearing a clear, all the ultimate enjoyers will be happy to hop into your pf to help you get the clear, the final push is the easiest part.
