For starters, I think if you specify your world as "single player" the resource requirements, especially hexolite onwards, should be halved. And tower bosses should have health reduced. I shouldn't have to do gobfin metafuckery, I should have up to 5 pals who can do the job (within the 10 minutes). Similarly Raid bosses are poorly scaled, even with a base full of helpers.

It's great for a partner you take everywhere. The additional 20% or so damage increase you could get by replacing it probably isn't going to mean the difference against a tower boss, in all likelihood.
Additionally, if your pal is someone who will ever be in a base working, it means they'll never have to sleep, because it's a better "nocturnal."

Just to add that Serenity is only really worth it on Pal attacks with long cool down times (which all of the stronger attacks have anyway so late game Serenity is always worth it), since the cooldown formula is always rounded up. The formula is

So if you take a strong attack like Fire Ball with a 55 seconds cooldown, and put it under Serenity, you get
>55 / 1.3 = 42.308 -> 43 seconds
So now the Pal can use Fire Ball every 43 seconds instead of every 55.
On the other hand something weak like Aqua Gun with only a 4 seconds cooldown doesn't benefit at all, because

I'm convinced each pal has a math aneurysm going on to calculate their swim speed, that base speed is factored into, which means improving it DOES improve swim speed, just by a funny math algorithm amount instead of "30".
Some pals it's negligible, some it's noticeable, some pals that basically can't swim seem to get more speed from the trait in the water than they do on land.
Until these formulas emerge, I can't say for sure. It does matter, though, I had a swift, runner, legend Jorm from before the update, that's noticeably faster than a basic one, though.

It's more engaging because there's much more to do that comes and integrates into the base building and pal building aspects, enemy bases gives you maps, maps gives you blueprints and skill books, dungeon gives you specialized ores early, raid boss fragments, etc. Fishing gives you pals and ores, elemental chests gives you skills and dog coins for pal strengthening and so on.

I don't usually see the point of Serenity for any pal I'm not primarily riding, because it's usually better to blow your load on 3 big skills, then switch to the next one, rather than wait to recharge, and 4 pals is almost always enough to refill cooldowns anyways.

Not all of them had been completely fruited, only Orserk and the Hard Skin Jorm had their attack maxed, I was working on Astegon last time we played, which was probably about a month after Feybreak. All of them had full Pal soul investment in attack, the Jetragon and Hard Skin Jorm also had maxed defense and HP. The rest had variable amounts of both, I think Astegon had no investment in the others at all. The Jorm with Unstable did have a relatively high attack IV, that's why I used it, but it wasn't maxed. The Orserk also has above average, but I had a less extensive breed of them before I picked, that was the first guy I did a focused breed on.
My friend did it solo, they do gobfins, but even that was pushing the timer.
Most were using purely dragon type movesets, Orserk and the Unstable Jorm were still using a high power not-dragon move, I was gonna work on finding a Comet Strike fruit for 'em, but, didn't think that would shore up all the damage I still needed on its own, so kinda lost motivation to look for moves for one fight it probably wouldn't help for.

Personally, I absolutely hate how tanky everything is and it's a slog to go through all the HP, so I amped up damage taken for everyone. Pals and player. Sure the enemies die fast, but so do you, especially in the air cannon early game and mid game. it honestly kinda forced me to use stealth and infighting for a while to get through some rough patches in the overworld. If the grinds a pain, up the drop rate.

If you're not willing to modify the game so that you can get enjoyment out of it, you may have better luck with another game that doesn't offer sliders as a solution. After all, if it's not fun, why bother? There's no real cheating unless you're in multiplayer with other players and you get a huge advantage over other players.

Honestly, you can have your pals survive fine off baked berries until you make salad. They just will eat more frequently. About 3 plots of berries should hold you over. the coal, issue can be solved easily early on too. there's a plateu mid map that has naturally generating coal nodes until you unlock the buildable farm for it.

Also early game ore at the abandoned church in the red hills area is easily the best area to set up your first base.

Just make sure you have a full team of Noble + Fine Furs pals, you get 40% more gold when selling (and also a 40% discount when buying). Since you'll be buying the bones and pal fluids en masse, and maybe even buying the paldium if you don't want to convert ore into paldium at crushers, you spend a few hundred thousand in gold. But you more than make it back. Each one sells for 6328, which adds up fast.

A new base and pals that are resistant to the boss elements are good enough to start. Level 30~bellanoir is easy. You get multiple bases. You only need maybe 3-4 pumps in total to more than cover all your needs, now that you have higher base generation + all of the tech upgrades. If you stack up two pumps on a single node, a single base with 2 nodes (4 pumps) will be more than enough.

When the game launched, the meta was to dump everything into carry weight, with a bit of stamina (5 levels or so) and then the rest into health. Once you got to endgame you'd use a respec potion to switch to full damage.
But now you can max out all yours stats trivially easy with elixirs, so do what you want. I'd still say go more for weight early on. Supply drops cover a lot of stats and the Terraria dungeon gives multiple guaranteed life crystals and can be chain run over and over until you max your HP stat.

You can, they used to be pretty useless, but they gave them better work skills. Most of them are just level 1, but you can always book them up. You can also use move fruits on them, which is great.
The most useful part of catching humans is that they keep their special interactions, so say you catch a Wandering Merchant, you'll have a non-wandering merchant at your base at all times.

I'm confident I can kill Bjorn with just a few levels of condensing and pumping my pals full of souls. He's got a bunch of goofy animations that I love, and his skill set is pretty great.
At condense level 4, they have Kindling 4, Handiwork 3, Mining 3 (and Gathering 2, Farming 2, but I disable those tasks for them). Pretty easy to cap them off with skill books, now that they're more available.
I keep four of them in the base.
When they have no tasks queued, they default to 3 on mining, with 1 that rotates out when they take breaks (thought now that fishing is in, the fourth is usually on the fishing platform).
If I queue up ingots/food/production, then all four break off and go do the task.

A Pal with Handiwork spends about 20 minutes fishing.
At the end, you get a fishing Pal and some loot.
Each queue takes 10 bait, you can queue up to 10 at a time (for 100 bait).
At the highest tier, the loot include Coralum, but the rate of return is pretty terrible. Like, 200 minutes = 10 Coralum.

If you hate the fishing minigame, this is a good way to get a few starter pals to breed out the twelve bonus XP pals with.
You are far and away better off doing active scavenging than waiting on passive base fishing loot. Get a water mount and four Jellroy and go at it.

I'll probably keep the base fishing stand around for the sake of having it, but it's pretty useless once you have the fishing pals collected.

One of the upgrade steps is to build a crude oil extractor but how can you do this on a base which doesn't have any oil present? The upgrades are character bound. Unlock them for any one base's advancements, and they apply to all bases. Hell, for a lot of them you can build the necessary building, get the advancement, and immediately delete the requirement.
