Why are there no Deus Ex clones? It’s probably the most acclaimed game of all time, yet it has had fairly limited direct influence. Most indie imsims are closer to SS2 and Thief, and even the other DE games have quite different gameplay from the original.

i think the way immersive sims handle difficulty just isn't much fun for players with a modern sensibilty. where finding novel/emergent solutions can obv be satisfying, there is something disempowering to the player when you put a wall in front of them and force them to find a solution that can end up feeling jank or cheesy as often as it yields an "aha" moment.
i think the nu hitman trilogy solves this fairly well by allowing sandbox gameplay while also giving players heavily telegraphed options to get their bearings in the systems/level design language

Because the imsim curse is a real thing.

God, I fucking hate stupid people that need amusement park rides. Even those games feel like bowling with the bumpers up.

>Why are there no Deus Ex clones

Because they are extremely hard to do correctly.

Basically you're saying "modern" audiences are mentally impaired.

it's too schizo conspiracy driven to be copied well.

Not that anon, but can you explain what makes it an imsim? I'm curious.

There are a lot of “immersive sims”, most of which are indie.

Imsims are hard to make solodev
And AAA companies just want more money.

Any stealth/FPS game with few routes is close enough to so-called "immersive sims", whether it's Death Stranding, or Prey (2017), or Cyberpunk 2077, or New Vegas, unironically, the whole "emergent gameplay"* has nothing to do with older so-called "immersive sims" and it's a marketing speech, the same way people say they're "having a blast" when playing Dragon's Dogma, with only difference is that so-called "immersive sims" are good games, and DD is not

* And calling sandbox elements "emergent gameplay" doesn't make your game more exciting or unique

And none of your seething about technicalities or "market speech" changes the fact that emergent gameplay is fun and should be in more games.
Its much more difficult to do than scripted solutions though so it likely won't be.
