The true mistake WoW did in terms of writing was to kill of the Lich King.
WotLK should have ended with the Lich King victorious, alliance and horde scrambling to make an escape out of Northrend, dreading when the next blow would fall.
It would also have helped limit the power creep the series was dealing with, if you establish the Lich King as the big looming threat in the background, and sometimes foreground when he invades a region of the world, you can't make villains that are significantly stronger than him.

Post ICC, Icecrown itself gets removed as a zone with quests and purely turned into a zone filled with endless hostile mobs

Then as the new raid comes out, split up in wings that are each about conquering a different place and time gated, and whenever any guild on your server completes a wing, several zones in Northrend get turned into purely hostile zones

By the time there's only a few zones left the quests itself in Northrend change, and purely become about the Alliance and Horde desperately evacuating the continent

Daily reminder that I quit at the perfect time. My SL/SL warlock was an absolute PVP GOD. I was fully geared out and I could defeat everyone in the game 1v1 even mace stun rogues popping CDs was 50/50, and only if they were also geared as fuck. I also raided and just spammed shadow bolts and it was based. Didn't have to do some sweaty gay and retarded rotation like a bitch. I was widely famous on my server for killing everyone and also shitposting in trade chat. I have a group of 5 RL friends who played with me. We had our own guild and ventrilo server and my 5v5 time was one of the top dogs on the server. Our warrior was a high warlord as well.

I got all the fun out of WoW without it ruining my life. I liken it to someone who did crack for years but managed to quit and come out of it unscathed :)

No, it wasn't. In the TT RPG that was released right after WoW came out they showed that Stormwind alone had a higher population level than the entire Horde put together. The Horde were originally supposed to be the scruffy, scrappy underdogs who were heavily outnumbered and mostly survived because they were dwelling in the parts of the world no one else was interested in. There's even a whole spiel Thrall gives you about how living in the desert wastelands of Durotar will teach the Orcs the importance of living in harmony with the elements once again and keep anyone from invading since no one else is willing to live there. Of course they abandoned and forgot all of that by TBC.
