Took a few tries but I finally beat this stupid map. It wasn't as bad as the one with the floor falling into the water, but pretty annoying. The light spear things weren't even that bad, it was the long range magic that was tedious to deal with. I just waited in the area above the first flight of stairs and baited them to use all their times and staves until they broke.

Just to expand on this a bit, the two routes, Ilia and Sacae, determine the next 4 (5 with gaiden) maps you do. It also changes the prepromote unit you get in chapter 20. People here generally consider Sacae harder, but some of the maps are physical heavy and can be bodied by someone like Delphi shield Milady or Douglas, while Ilia also does have some ball-busting moments too.

Honestly it does feel a little generic to me. I know people hate Path of Radiance, but that game's story and writing were very captivating to me as a 13 year old at least when I played it.

With almost every game that tries to ape FE the people making them (and really most non-FE SRPGS period) try to put a billion different little individual perks and equipment slots and what-have-you onto every character and a trillion different classes that it all just becomes a homogenous slush that's more about "builds" than actual tactics and map design. They miss the point that what generally makes FE play different than other SRPG's is that Class is generally way more central than stacking +1's.
Like in FE pretty much every Myrmidon plays the same and fills the same role in your overall strategy for a given map as any other Myrmidon does. Your choice mainly coming down to "Do I want to use the slightly tankier Myrmidon or the slightly faster one, or do I want to forgo fielding another class in order to field two myrmidons at once?" and this means that you can make intricate map design based around the fact you need different classes to achieve different goals, while most FE imitators give everyone so much bullshit that class ceases to be a meaningful unit aspect and everyone just becomes a stack of numbers and you can't make good maps because everyone ends up playing the same no matter their class (Three Houses suffers from this some too). Banner of the Maid actually maintains a very small roster of hyper specialized classes like classic FE does who fulfill very particular roles in your army, with units of the same class differing only sightly from one another. Each class has a role to play and you generally need at least on unit in your army in that role if you want to play the game effectively. And because of this Banner of the Maid can actually have good map design because the maps are designed around those classes fulfilling different tasks.
