Because there wasn't enough respect that the players had played the first game and thus were fully aware that there was an obscene amount of ridiculous bullshit that could happen. There needed to be some kind of ending or a better character than August with knowledge and has absolutely no patience for the Festival and if the player made enough correct decisions could just easy-mode Perkele. Like if the player picked Ossa and had some kind of ending where he could with great difficulty and sacrifice protect everyone from moonscorching and they gangbang Rher at the end. Or have Marina meet her dad and him being high ranking church they could agree from their education that "this bullshit is happening again" and they could fuck over Perkele.

There needed to be some kind of organized antibody response to the Festival even if it was simply the church having an escape plan.

I mean whatever - the point is that the "perfect save everyone run" ending should have been the FIRST ending designed into the game. It's not lame to have a good positive ending scenario in a world that is so fucking bleak and especially when this world has a written history so that everyone, especially an organization as powerful as the church, could have some kind of response to when the Traces emerge. Like Perkele wouldn't be the only person to know Rher is gone - the church would know too.

It would have been great if everyone actually assembled in the bar - and killing Henryk before he poisons everyone should be an option. I don't think the contestants need to realize Perkele is weak - they just need to both realize that there's no way out of town until the Festival ends and perhaps everyone knows exactly how past Festivals have ended (entire cities become Moonscorched and occasionally one sane person is found in the ruins). Everyone just agrees that they're going to go fuck up Perkele and it turns out that when you have 2 battle-grade mages and another dozen people with automatic weapons the piece of shit goes down pretty fast because magic is a rather common thing and everyone knows enough bullets can stop it pretty well.

The game can end with all of them flipping off Rher. And maybe Rher just scorches all of them at once but they were all going to die anyways.

I think it was fairly good. Part 1 just gets the boost from being "new" while you know what you can expect in this universe in part 2.

The reason to have a lot of characters with a constrained setting is to have permutations.
But certain characters will only join your party on day 3, preventing the combo from going through most of the game together.
The time advancement sounds kino but ends up limiting party comp, defeating the benefit of more characters.

I think 2 is a direct upgrade on paper but in reality it doesn't scratch quite the same itch to me.
I think part of it is because of how it dials back the first game's unapologetic disregard for modern sensibilities. I think another part that the constant amount of references (look its art the clown, look its human centipede, look its the LOVELESS poster from FF7), it really takes me out of it personally.
Also I get this is kinda what he was going for with the whole battle Royale thing but the cast feels like the contestants for a really edgy Danganronpa fanfare or something, they just come off as overly quirky compared to the first game's more simple lineup.
People will probably think this is a stupid opinion but I think the music in 2 is too good and I unironically prefer 1's "soundtrack" that was kinda shitty and was questionable if it even counts as music because it was just way spookier. 2's soundtrack sometimes comes off as relaxing when it really shouldn't, like how am I supposed to be oneedge when this is playing: https://youtu.be/U4YAKheaysU

I like Termina and F&H 1 but they're honestly pretty bad games. They're incredibly poorly balanced and late game combat is just entirely Analyze + aimed hit to the head on normal enemies and then Pheromone + Blood Golem on bosses until you whittle the health bar down. The art, music, and characters are all generally very good but its just not helped but its dogshit gameplay that becomes trivial once you get beyond the first two to three hours.

I tried both. The atmosphere of the first feels like you're in the closest thing to hell but it does feel a bit to trial and error. I beat it in about 6 hours by just wandering forward and getting torn apart before reloading and avoiding everything that was dangerous.

Meanwhile I found Termina worse because while it was a better game, I didn't really care much for the location and found it didn't really fix much of the trial and error aspect since boss fights swing from "regular enemies are more of a threat" to "hopeless if you aren't prepared".

I think the removal of rape was mostly because everyone knows F&H as that RPGmaker game where you get raped in half the death scenes. I agree with sexual violence being a good device to show the brutality of the world but it felt a bit excessive in the first one. The second has 2(?) rape scenes and an attempted rape scene. Look at something like Outlast, specifically Trials, where you can see signs of sexual abuse and rape in half of Coyle's dialogue and signs all over his environments because the implication is enough to want to avoid getting caught by him.

The game is very much like an old survival horror game like early Resident Evil. If you haven't played one of those "save scumming" is indeed a very big part of them. I would actually say it's one of the biggest flaws of the survival horror formula but its hard to avoid because it's difficult to create tension without limiting checkpoints/saves. My general advice is:
Try to take out hands with dangerous weapons first.
Avoid taking out both hands because often the handless tackle they do can be worse than their one armed attack.
Taking out both legs with make the enemy off balance which makes you able to hit their head.
You will need trial and error sometimes. With that in mind, whenever you save its not bad to go out and experiment until you die then load the save. This is something you have to do in old Resident Evil a lot. It makes going through the game faster actually because when you accept a run is doomed you can be reckless and just use a ton of resources to gather a ton of information and load your save when you die.

That was my first ending. I ended up playing it a few more times but got bored towards the end of my solo run.

The first game’s atmosphere of overwhelming oppression is unmatched. Nothing else comes close. It is very hard. There are ways to mitigate the RNG to the point that it's not a huge factor. Honestly the way the RNG can fuck you the most in my opinion is the item spawns. You just need certain things to get going solo and if you can't get certain items it fucks a run and you have to start doing risky shit.

You can't use real party members but you can use blood golems, ghouls and skeletons. No Demon Seed, other humans or Moonless though. Skeletons will lose their arms for sure. By the end of my Outlander S run none of mine had both arms left. It helps to get some of the limb protecting gear too.
