They've been doing this since ARR and back then it was understandable because they needed to make ARR within 18 months, but that was 13 years ago and ff14 is still ripping off FF11 assets rather than creating their own.

It's not innovation but iteration, just more of the same instead of something new.

FFXI was reasonably pretty for a PS2 game. The visuals and HDD support were pretty much all it had going for it over EQOA.

I think I am mostly crestfallen about how shit the setting is. Limsa, Ul'dah and Gridania were all cities with their own issues, themes, style, memorable NPCs and even music. Very, very distinct, made me happy to be able to be part of one of them. Shit, I can hear the night themes of all three cities in my head and have good memories of them.

The issue is that the way ff14 is structured makes it such that you HAVE to go through the wuk humiliation ritual to play the game. I suffered through the post arr quest slog and I genuinely think dawntrail wuk was worse. Even if the slog could be boring and dialogue heavy, at least the writing was decent and atmospheric, this shit with wuk is just trash. And you HAVE to go through it. Imagine if they do a soft reset and players first experience to the game is wuk lamat? They unironically need to scrap dawntrail entirely, move past it and make the next expansion the beginning of the soft reset and never bring wuk back or reference her or the expansion again.
