Was very saddened to delete The Alters, but I know better than to support AIslop that will make the industry worse.
>The Alters comes out, it has AI slop
>It's just a single texture, bro (Of what we caught, at least), let it go
>Game succeeds
>Developers know that AIslop doesn't get any meaningful pushback
>It's a competitive advantage to use AIslop
>Pretty much all companies use AIslop because why the fuck wouldn't they?
>Lower quality games are released faster with more shortcuts
>Indie games (The Alters is an indie game, by the way) have to compete with AIslop as well
>Soon everything is AIslop
>Becomes an endless regurgitation of itself in an industry where people just proompt
>It's 2040 now
>The best game released in 2040 is worse than the average indie hit from 2025
It doesn't take a genius to figure out that an industry consisting of games made by 10 proompters that are skillful at doing the 2020s equivalent of inputting google search inquiries are not gonna reach anywhere near the same level of quality as games that actually had personal craft put into them like the best games that release nowadays.
AIjeets have yet to explain why I am supposed to be happy by this dark future, and, not only that, why I'm supposed to spend my hard earned money on video games like The Alters that propel that future into reality.

>>714265150It probably will, yeah. Consumers accepted early access, horse armor. The bar for what a gamer doesn't take up his ass is pretty fucking low. Basically only NFTs failed.
But there's a chance, just a small chance, that people won't give in. I hope to god it happens.

>>714265703>more competent AIsClearly not, or else theyโd be indistinguishable from a human and we wouldnโt have people noticing this shit.
AI enthusiasts don't understand that context matters. Imagine you go to a party and hear everyone talking about how hilarious Mr. X is and that you need to hear his jokes. You finally get the chance to check out his reputation, but he pulls out his smartphone and starts reading jokes he finds on the Internet. Does it matter if the joke is funny or not? No, you'll find it ridiculous, consider the guy a fraud, and doubt the sanity of everyone around you. It's exactly this same phenomenon that makes people reject developers when they're caught using AI to create elements of their games.
That doesn't mean that AI as a whole will be rejected. When someone is in a 3D program and is using AI to help them create assets, the result will be no different from someone grabbing textures from a library or some shit. This type of secondary use as a tool is already a reality and will be beneficial because it will allow creative people to produce more quickly, without their intent being replaced by an algorithm that would be creating everything from scratch.
>>714265346Ai is literally better at all those things than you.
Are AIjeets really the new VRtards? Itโs the same logic:
>this technology will be the future of video games, and youโre a fool for not getting excited about it
>g-games? well, no, none that are good YET, but shut up and get excited anyway!
We literally have ZERO examples of AI being implemented in a game and being on par with or superior to assets made entirely by humans.

AI will never replace actually creative people. But EVERYONE thinks they're creative and have good ideas when in reality only 5-10% of people do and none of them are normalfags/women/brownoids. OP is right that AI could bring about a renaissance of the video game industry, but only if they actually cared about video games. If AI allowed more people to make more games without that filter at the studio level, they'd have to bend the knee and not demand people to make brown, trans dogshit cause nobody would ever bother with said archaic, corporate studio sanitized process ever again and they'd make no money from what the 5-10% of people with good ideas would make with AI. The only way to keep forcing brown and gay is by making people need to answer to corporations for funding and studios.

It could also improve text to speech systems. It would take a leap in performance but I can see a point where you can AI clone your own voice into a video game or in theory use any voice you want.

>>714323575These are facts about how the technology works. The name 'neural network' derives from the structure resembling that of neurons, but should not be conflated with an artificial brain just because the word 'neural' has that association. The concept of a "tree" is ubiquitous in computing and yet you don't find programs reaching 150 feet and shitting leaves out of the GPU.
>I'd like to ask you how you know what word should follow the next, and how you learned.Through interpretation of symbols and confirming those interpretations against the experience of reality, nervous and psychological responses. It did not involve being trained on the average proximity of individual words and phrases to each other in a vast ocean of data. We can skip that process because we're capable of thought. Whereas LLMs literally skip over the thinking stage in order to generate sentences that superficially mimic ones a thinking human wrote. They're designed to sound like they think, so that gullible people will spend money on them. But there is no component of them that thinks. It's literally not there.
Again, a 'hallucinated' AI output is just a normal AI output with worse luck, not one that's somehow faulty. There's no meaningful distinction between the two. There's no brain at work to hallucinate in the first place.
>>714324132>And the open source ones lag far behind the more marketed ones. Not to mention that the resources to run one will get more and more expensive as they advanceNot that anon but i think open source is the way forward, these big massively expensive models are a dead end in my opinion, theres only so much you can scale up before things start to get retardedly expensive. Expecially when your business model is "Lets give this cool tool to people and hope they find a good use for it". Your argument only makes sense if the SotA models weren't already crazy expensive for a currently unreliable level of quality.
The benefit of open source is that people can and have created specialised models that perform certain tasks like deep research with a fraction of the compute.
>>714323376>It's a dead end.I think so too, but i disagree that they "know nothing". ML in general is kind of a black box and its hard to know what they know. Its kind of like peering into the mind of a chicken, they are dumb, and they lack essential understandings or abilities that we have, but its hard to tell what they know or feel, they might even have advanced specialised skills that they are 100x better than humans at like chimps with spacial memorisation or LLMs with memorisation and language encoding in general.
