Mythra is militant and cold so Pyra is motherly and warm. Mythra has no hesitation about using her doom laser on regular people, Pyra dislikes fighting and will avoid it where she can. Mythra can't cook for shit, Pyra is damn near a chef.

This is called; when azurda turns into the fuzzball he clearly says that he is just entering a weaker form for a period of time to rest and recharge. I don't think that was what they were going for. Correct me if I'm wrong but the problem wasn't just Pyra wanting to die, the problem was Pyra wanting to give up. The destruction of Torna ruined her and Pyra was just as hopeless as Malos, Amalthus, and Klaus was. Unlike Malos who decided to have fun watching the world burn, Pyra moreso gave up on herself and just wanted to die. Because do you justify so much blood on your hands? So yeah, in that instance Rex needed to carry that weight so that that Pyra, and Mythra, could live again.

In the ending it wasn't about giving up anymore. Pneuma knew she had to stay behind to keep Megaman X5 from being canon. Yes Pneuma believed she was going to die. But in this instance she's trading her life to save the world, not blowing it up with her Gundam mech suit. As she tells Rex, she loves this world now. And everyone understood that. Hell I'm sure Rex understood it but he was never going to accept it because by then he'd resolved to carry Pneuma's load for her. And seeing as how Pneuma loves Rex, she'd never allow him to join her death march.

Pardon my pseudfaggotry but considering her final monologue, Malos' question, and the lyrics of One Last You, it comes off as her wanting to finally, truly live as a decision of her own despite being in an ideal suicide situation that she wanted all this time (To die while erasing every trace of herself that she associates negatively with). She finally gets the chance, but because of her experiences during the course of the game, she instead prays to "God" that she can live through it, and give back what she believes Rex gave to her. So she's making one last wish of her own, a different one from what she initially had at the start of the game. It's a kind of definitive cap off and actualization of what she allows herself to believe at the end of chapter 7.

The issue is that it's super hacky and self-indulgent regardless. It should have been displayed more explicitly instead of being left to a post-credit scene with only hints beforehand.

As someone who really likes happy endings, I'm pretty content with the fact that Pyra and Mythra, who's goal from day one was to kill themselves, found a new lease on life, love, and acceptance from Rex, and are thus given a second chance to live.

But what matters is that Tetsuya Takahashi seems to genuinely believe in them.
