However, his original incarnation was "hated" by all gods, such that none of them would grant him reprieve, so he had to have done something pretty fucking baller and threatened their divinity or fucked with the wall somehow. I’m guessing from the intro cutscene that he essentially created a universe cancer that wiped out his native plane and is spreading somehow. It likely affects gods if even the murder gods despise him for it.

DEX is for ranged combat and armor class
CON is HP
INT is for wizards and some converastion checks
WIS is for clerics but you can't be one. it's the most important stat because of the EXP bonus it provides
CHA useless except for some conversation check

Not really if you care for certain builds, but intelligence and wisdom(?) are required to unlock some extra dialogue options. Lets be real; this game has mid gameplay, and mostly focuses on its atmosphere and writing. So in order to fully enjoy it, you need every dialogue option available.
Icewind dale is better when it comes to character creation and builds. Its all about this.

I wouldn't characterize it THAT bad, but I'd agree that it falls very flat. Frankly, I think a lot of the problem is just that Thaos wasn't cool or charismatic enough. The ideas aren't bad, but the execution didn't pan out.
