Dude what the hell is wrong with Valve. There needs to be some EU consumer protection shit against these guys since they have a virtual monopoly over the PC market.

They need a more transparent review process, and rejections should be based on real evidence of misconduct, more than just "feelings and vibes." It also should not be a one-shot-or-nothing deal where you have no ability to appeal if you're rejected the first time. Especially since you have to pay for this frankly opaque shitty review process.

Nekopara 1-3 have the 18+ patches available to purchase on Steam. By Nekopara 4 Mary Rules were implemented and so the patch was banned. After's patch is also off-Steam and the game itself barely made it on even without 18+ content.

Antitrust legislation needs to be updated to account for this. Valve's network effect has made it all but impossible for other storefronts to compete with them, and as a result anything that can't release on Steam is effectively doomed to die in darkness even if it releases somewhere else.

What they CAN do, however, is apply similar rules of neutrality as public utilities to platforms with a certain percentage of market share or greater, restricting what they can ban from their stores to only things with a clear and imminent legal threat, and only in the territories where said law applies, so no more global bans. And most importantly, give developers grounds to contest these companies when they're unfairly blocked from the market.

Seeing this does make me wonder what exactly is the threshold for VN publishers to consider a release successful. Did VNs and eroges really sell 15k or more back in the day before Steam took off? If they did, then Steam not only introduced new users to the PC ecosystem, they even managed to monopolize the users that were already there.

The environment has made Vita-style ecchige virtually impossible to release. Tokyo Clanpool couldn't properly release ANYWHERE, not even fucking GOG! It tried the same method Mary Skelter 2 used to get on Steam and got met with a hard-ban. Steam is getting worse, Nintendo is getting worse, only Sony seems to MAYBE be shifting away, but I still don't think they're trustworthy, they still censored a game as recent as last winter. This is why I'm calling for these platforms to be regulated, lesser devs that deal in "controversial" content need a shield from agenda-pushers bullying them out of the market.

The last Gal*Gun release on Steam was in 2021. Going by precedent from 2023 (censored version of Dungeon Travelers 2 banned) and 2024 (censored version of Tokyo Clanpool banned, all-ages VN Key VN with no sexual content banned), there is little reason to believe they would accept another Gal*Gun game. I don't know why Inti thinks Nintendo is still viable after the Neptunia Re;Birth bans and Tokyo Clanpool being censored, but being insiders I guess they might know something I don't.

Yes, mary and the no resubmission policy suck and needs to go and there does seem to be an element of rng over whether a sketchy game gets accepted or not based on the reviewer's feelings on any given day. But far more often than not, valve is better about this than anyone else, especially nintendo at this point, and it's baffling that representative seems to think otherwise. If they keep trying to latch on to consoles instead of doing everything they can to take advantage of pc, they are 100% for sure doomed.
