As you can imagine, this makes it difficult to control theft, because you have to remain vigilant, and manually file take downs. I have to wonder it it's not connected to Ethan Klein's new lawsuits. He's going after a few people that maliciously stole his videos. The 3 of them are among his biggest haters. So in order to get back at them, he basically baited them into stealing his work. He made critical videos about them, and filed those videos in the library of congress. Which pretty much gave the videos extra official legal protections against theft. And then they predictably hate-watched his videos. But the thing is, they didn't transform his work.

They either stated or wrote that you can watch the video on their stream, in order to avoid giving him views. So that was expressed intent to steal his work. And then they provided little to no commentary, thus actually stealing his work.

So Ethan announced this big gotcha, and explained his case. Making the whole affair out in the open. He said that this lawsuit could open up a whole can of worms. If it goes through, it could establish a legal precedent, that allows him to take down so many others who stole from him. But he only wants to target these three, since they're actually causing real life problems with him and his kids, and he feels like he has to strike back in some way.

But if youtube sees this case as potentially opening the door to way more legal action against low effort commentary videos, they might see it as something they can use to their advantage.

and because youtube is a black box algorithm retardation, your watch stats etc matter and will take hits if all of a sudden there are essentially multiple copies of your video pasted around youtube. and then there are the megaleech reactors. its a one way pipeline to the reactor, not to creators. people get introduced to the reactor's ecosystem of stolen content and to make matters worse they may go "hey go give this guy a like" so they do and they watch 5 seconds of the original video and tank it because youtube sees hundreds of people clicking off of the video without staying to watch or they subscribe but never actually watch a video. its a whole thing
