It's not really fun. The levels are pretty linear and the combat is a bit dull. You mostly sit in place auto attacking and occasionally using abilities that have both cool down and MP limits so you can't use them all that much. There are way too many ways to level up, be it levels, skill points, and even more currencies and level up trees. And the level ups use the tired old 5% more trope, which doesn't make them seem impactful at all. The character models are pretty bland looking and the home base is not very exciting either. The actual art for the character portraits and cut scenes is much better than the rest of the art direction. The plot is very slow going. You're fighting bandits and monsters for way too long. They really needed to get into the thick of the politics of the setting faster. I know it turns out to be pretty interesting but it takes way too long to get there.

You do a bunch of boring quests and the game lazily tries to gaslight you into thinking you accomplished something. You help out the duke or king or whatever the hell at level 2 and for the literal rest of time, whenever you pass by the town square to sell items or use a crafting bench, two NPCs will yell, fully voiced, "hey did you hear about the hero who helped saved the duke? I'd like to buy THAT hero an ale!" every fucking MINUTE.
despite being buy to play the game is aggressively monetized. to craft shit or make your mount go faster, you have to 'train' with those big mobile game timers that paying money allows you to skip. at first they seem reasonable, but then become month-long affairs.
speaking of crafting, i hope you dont want to because without paying for the SUBSCRIPTION you are a second class citizen - crafting materials go into your inventory but with eso+ you get a separate crafting bag instead of having to micromanage like a second job. house decorating? eso+ lets you put down 2x the items, without they look barren.
there are fucking lootcrates in this game. the character that deals these to you canonically exists in the game doing this. LOOTBOXES ARE CANON TO THE LORE IN ESO.
and there are soo many of them. hundreds of unique items stuffed away in gambling. sooo many paid mounts and pets. i hope you like the basic horse because unless you shell out, grind an obscene amount of gold or play a long time for log-in rewards, you wont get anything interesting. there are dozens of homes for sale costing crowns up to an including hundred dollar homes.

You do fetch/murder quests in tiny areas, each room in a dungeon is a closed combat arena where you spam your 3-4 active abilities while exploiting your dodge i-frames. That's every race and weapon type. If you want to roll a different fat ass rat, you do the same fetch quest in the same order in the same tiny areas because of the level gating. It could be serviceable, if the progress wasn't getting hanged up with fetch quests and level gating, and if it had some grand adventure or rewarding exploration to tackle, but there is fuck all to play.

it gets very difficult. it is short, but it is about being precise with your shots and moving through the levels fast. it is a lot better than the presentation might make it seem. there's a whole series of them, but i would highly recommend checking out at least the first one if you have nothing else.

ESO is definitely worth it if it's only $5. Base game/free content is like ~300 hours not including shit like PvP or endgame PvE. But it's like TES-lite multiplayer version, so it's a pretty big shift from normal TES games.

BDO has some of the best tradeskills and crafting in any game ever.
The combat/endgame/gear grind is stupid, don't bother. You can get 100+ hours just learning about the crafting and node management and real estate. Crafting your first raft and going fishing is rewarding. Crafting your first boat. Taming horses and then crafting your first wagon. The best crafting, pretty much ever.
People who do "endgame" content are stupid, because the game has an objectively idiotic gearing system. It's not a normal MMO. Combat is an afterthought.
Buy it if you want to craft. You can also afk run/fish.

I dropped it once I got to refrigeration. It's objectively way worse than DF. DF is on sale for $24, with free Adventure Mode added, and constant free updates. As long as you don't pick the time-limited difficulty, you'll be able to power through it eventually, just have to deal with unwieldy controls. It might have 12 different body postures to assume, 5 boosters and 6 grenade types, but the effective playstyle is pretty much universal, and found by necessity. There is one bit at the end that might be a pain in the ass, but that's part of the fun.
