Considering we took femcustodes very well by saying "muscle mommy BASED!!!" and seeing just how hot it was that they were dominant over male marines, I think we're finally ready for femarines.

Warhammer 40k was pretty unique in that it was about the final days of humanity. After all the technological advancements and progress humanity was confronted by the universe and was teetering on the edge of (unspoken, but inevitable) extinction.

This gave the setting a (very deeply) hidden maturity that most sci fi didn't have, it was written by depressed british punks and whatever levity and humor it had served to somehow enhance the sadness of it all. All the dumb looking steroid marines in bucket armor were desperately clawing against the inevitable.

All of this was allowed to fly under the radar for long enough, but then it became gay GI Joe in space to sell it to american 12 year olds with iqs of 80.

Each marine was hand selected or put through rigorous once-a-generation trials to just get added to the pool of possible candidates.

Each marine is a fucking massive investment, in regards to manpower, technology, and medical procedures.

Buddy Marines ain't special. Chapters constantly have to replenish their numbers due to attrition. Their saving grace is that Marines tend to deploy in small enough numbers that the individual attrition rate is slow, but when itcomes to actual recruitment they absolutely are mass produced assembly line soldiers.
You have to really keep in mind that the recruitment pool for Marines is basically limitless and even if one wave of potential recruits fails they'll have another several dozen on site within a day or two.

People on reddit talk like they think he's a cool guy, but aside from his greater daemons enjoying themselves (a greater daemon essentially being the god himself, so that's just him enjoying himself), all the nurgle stories are so grim that it almost makes you want to stop reading. It's not 40K, but the Fall of Altdorf book, with the imperials trying to hold on to a city that's literally crumbling to dust around them, is some of the most hopeless fiction I've read in a while. With absolutely no humor or enjoyment to it, which is pretty rare these days. It's difficult to put into words just what's so retarded about it. I think the main issue is that it attracts a sort of person who uses it as a vehicle to self-insert into a power fantasy. Which is fine, I suppose, but at a certain point you have to be able to take a step back and acknowledge that it's kind of childish. But WH40K is filled with imagery and references to ancient Rome, which many uneducated people immediately equate to being "deep" or "meaningful," and because they get taken in by Latin words. So WH40K fans are in a headspace where they get to be wildly self-indulgent (e.g. drawing fanart of space marines butchering characters from other franchises, spamming "PRAISE THE EMPEROR" in places no one asked for, etc) while ALSO believing that their thing is "super deep." As someone who got into 40k lore back in the mid 2010s, it was the opposite, I feel that the over-the top extremity of the setting in having billions die to take a hilltop was the interesting part, space marines dieing en-masse included. The Imperium was more of a morbid fascination of how civilization got that bad, and wasn't an object of aspiration.

But that was when 40k was more grimdark, nowadays the whole turn to Space Marines are heroic feels more stale to me than Space Marines are the bare minimum to hold the line against far more powerful xenos.

The Astral Claws didn't even look to Chaos until the aftermath of the conflict; Huron simply wasn't interested in paying taxes like how the wider Imperium wasn't interested in dealing with the Maelstrom beyond the Ring of Steel. Ironically they got a way bigger glowup after becoming the Red Corsairs, though.

A metric shitload of chapters also joined the conflict really, but Sallies were the only first-founding one involved. The Raptors were there, but emphasis on Red Scorpions too because lol Forge World.

Badab is essentially the biggest Space Marine civil war since the Heresy - and with minimal Chaos involvement at that (they just ganked two chapter masters on both sides). Some chapters were honor-bound to the Astral Claws and were put on penitent crusades after the conflict. From a real-world perspective, it was more or less GW's answer to the amount of SM mirror matches going on and offering a narrative incentive.

It's a firm retcon. That said, GW's commitment to Femstodes is not very solidified. It's been over a year, and the best they've had was a short story to move a dogshit codex and a single animation through a service nobody cares about. Era of Ruin surprisingly doesn't even bring them up despite ADB wanting them originally, otherwise there's going to be a later release wave of 30k-era stuff for Custodes and only time will tell if they'll have female models at all. Seems like it would be easy to undo if anyone gave a fuck, it's just as easy to ignore for the time being.

Fantasy is more interesting but 40k has better games.
Good Fantasy games would be the Total War ones (Warhammer 3 is in a good spot now), and Vermintide.
40k has games dating back decades and has consistently had both good and bad releases. Dawn of War, Rogue Trader, Battlefleet Gothic: Armada, Mechanicus, etc etc
