I feel like people are eager to dismiss RTS games (well, Diablo's an ARPG, but still isometric) since it's a more "impersonal" genre, and so they underestimate the storytelling potential - it's just a bunch of little guys you're clicking on from up above, what could you even do with that? (this kind of logic is why we've ended up in the age of AAA "cinematic" moviegame slop - people treated videogame writing by the standards of film, since that's an already accepted genre, and ignored any actually good stories from the medium in order to hail shit like The Last of Us as games finally being well written, by, uh... just being movies).
