It's crazy to think back to FFXI where each race (5 in total, with 2 of them even being mono-gendered) only had 8 face types each for male and female, and each of those face types only had 2 possible hair colors. And the game was a massive success thanks entirely to its gameplay. Fast forward to FFXIV and the game "succeeds" because of how many women and troons use it as a slightly more modernized Second Life.

We're talking an MMO developed in Japan, and at a company that regularly has to load staff in and out of large projects one at a clip. Maybe if CS3 does literally nothing for a long while after the Tactics remake they can think about reallocating that staff to XIV, but in the meantime pumping XIV full of more money won't materialize more or better staff. I like to assume QA can normally catch it to some degree and figure out what level it's at, but this is content that has to be tested with minimum twice as many people. There is no way an organic group forming in OC as the devs intended will ever clear. Due to the "one wipe and it is over" nature of the content discord groups are increasingly vetting people, even newbie runs now require you to study the guide material. Fork Tower is such a fail in game design and it could all have been averted if they just didn't make it too hard. When I heard Yoshi say this when they were hyping EO I knew it would be bad. Soloing PotD/HoH was fun because they didn't design the content around it and it feels a little bit like you're getting away with something if you clear it, especially on a shitty job. Besides non-threatening auto attacks, EO also has demi clones that'll solo the bosses for you and decently fast at that, so even astro can clear.

Which ordinarily isn't a problem, except he is given the task of encounter design for the 24 man chaotic was originally supposed to be no harder than a 1st Extreme and it turned into a Savage.

He did the same with Criterion, the normal Criterion (not the variant) was supposed to be no harder than Extreme difficulty for 4 players but he added in mechanics that made it Savage difficulty and in some cases harder because you only had 1 healer therefore it some mechanics were even harder than the current raid tier Criterion was released against.

Then we come to Fork Tower, which is meant to be a dungeon boss run at the end of the big grind. No resources left to develop a Normal mode so Mr Ozma designed only a Savage version for the tiny percentage of the player base that hate themselves enough to bang their heads against the wall repeatedly against this kind of difficulty especially in what is meant to be a bit more chill content, a bit easier, a bit less challenging.

Short answer, yes. Long answer the oldheads who were more experienced and well rounded on combat encounters and job design have left so the people who were left are mostly raid autists and they took over which is why encounter and job design is so homogeneous because pve combat is all streamlined towards balancing Ultimate and Savage.
They don't stop to think the impact of changing jobs for example removing Gnoxious gnash on Viper in 7.0 before Savage, and that made the raid fags happy but for other players that was one less utility and button to press for Viper which makes the class less fun to play in dungeons, in trials, in Extremes, hell in the Open world fate farming. These things are a far away consideration in job and encounter design that people genuinely scoff at you if you bring up that content other than Savage and Ultimate should not be boring, and should not induce sleep because of how boring it is.

I actually think that players like Xenos are a symptom and not the problem in of themselves.
The game is beyond piss easy up until it forces you into your first extreme and then it becomes ballbustingly punishing but not difficult until Ultimates which means that anyone with enough braincells to clear Extreme content will think that the game is boring as shit until they reach said difficulty level which in their mind is the "correct" way for the game to handle difficulty so they want the rest of the game to be like Extremes or above.

This is what happens when the devs don't narrow their difficulty curves, they can't allow there to be a massive difference between the highest and lowest levels of skill required because that only invites an escalating arms race between how good the players are and the devs ability to make the game difficult along with creating a schism in the community around what "hard" even means.

If the devs took current levels of "difficult" from the current normal content and applied it to the rest of the game and then cut "Ultimates" out entirely I actually think that would fix the problem, the ultra-sweaty people would feel more satisfied since now all of the content they are "forced" to play feels more satisfying and as long as the devs literally just decoupled the MSQ and "battle" content entirely from the "life" content then the ultracasuals would also be happy since they could continue decorating their houses and AFK'in in Limsa or go out into the world and mine ore as much as they want with no obligation to "git gud"

It's more of a sign of the times. People have become so sequestered now. Gated communities, as MGS2 rightly foretold.
People sit in their discords with their preexisting friends who 99.9% agree with them (so it's very safe!) and will not go outside them other than to goon or say o/ in a dungeon.
But a great many will proclaim they want the return of MMOs of yore where everyone talked and randomly played together like it was a real community, not being willing to start with themselves, and chastizing Square whenever they try to take steps to push people into doing it because "don't they know the community isn't like that!? But we want it to be!" Yeah, it has to start somewhere, and just like dungeons getting more difficult and some people pissing their pants about that, it's going to be a rough adjustment period first.
That's not to say Square does everything right and Forked Tower was immaculate. They struggle with not putting in bodychecks for everything, which aren't very compelling. But a lot of this is just "we wanted random people to play together, and people said they wanted to be made to play together with other random people" and the community just going "no, that's too scary".

My personal reasoning is just that I like RPGs where I can make my own character and customize them (their appearance, gear, etc), and despite what you might think, it's kinda hard to find games like that (I can name Dragon's Dogma, TES, MonHun and Souls, that's about it.)

I also think MMO players on average are some of the lowest quality people you can meet in online games, and I'd rather be around weed smokers calling me racial slurs or retarded in COD lobbies than malevolent or catty XIV players, there's just something nasty about MMO players, I can't fully articulate why, they're very 'estrogenated' and awful in general, Mercy mains in OW have a similar 'impression'.

When you say "Wipe timer" does that mean "Enrage timer"? Like, In Hydaelyn's call Extreme, she will go through her song and dance and then cast "Heros's Radiance" which literally just kills everyone if you can't kill her before she does that. That means that the entire group needs to maintain a MINIMUM DPS to able able to avoid a wipe, no matter what. So is that what you count as the "Wipe timer" or is that something else too you?
