They are going in hard on AI tools, requiring Copilot integration in every MS product and requiring devs to use as many of them as they can. MS is probably the most AI obsessed company outside of the AI developers (OpenAI etc)

30 years ago, games only took 1-2 years to make, tops. It used to be several sections of a company making different games, now you have several studios working on one single game.
Here's an idea, stop paying 60 people to spend 5 months on grass textures or one singular "woman's" peach fuzz. Just make a fun fucking game. Holy shit.

>microsoft breathing down phils neck
>quick lay off all the idiots and hope it's good enough

Xbox doesn't realize that there is no sure fire formula that produces great games. They thought that if they give their devs blank cheques they would use that time to make amazing games but instead they were just bumbling around day dreaming, cooking up design documents and prototypes that never went anywhere.

In 2006, during an investor report that contained their declaration of commitment to consoles, and a promise that within a 5 year horizon, gaming will be entirely removed from the Windows platform.

I think it's been a few years since everyone reached the conclusion that subscription services are basically never worth it, don't promote the creation of good, new media and only exist to drive better competitors out of business or run a stock market scam.
At this point it would be like unironically saying "Why are you criticizing this product? It's free." in 2020.

>noo think of the poor software devs
AI and vibe coding is simply the next stage of de-nerdifying and un-elitizing programming.
>80s
arcane languages, physical doorstopper manuals, only absolute nerds could be programmers and they were rightly paid very well. software engineers were definitely engineers.
>90s
simpler languages, first public websites, still a job for nerds and a bit overpaid. software engineers were still sort of engineers.
>2000s
high level languages, easier to use IDEs, forums and boards become ubiquitous. a job for smart people, not necessarily nerds and quite overpaid. software engineers were not really engineers anymore.
>2010s
extremely simple languages, stack overflow to answer any question, Intellisense doing your job for you. a job for midwits and definitely overpaid. software engineers are definitely not engineers.
>2020s
AI prompts replace programming languages entirely, research is automated, all you have to do is take a cursory glance and fit pieces together. a job for pretty much anyone, extremely overpaid right now but wages should drop like a rock. calling a vibe coder an engineers is like calling pouring milk on cereals cooking.

>"I like to comment that EA gives you enough rope to hang yourself," Zeschuk said. "And what I mean by that is you have to learn to work within the structure and I think we did quite well, if you look at the Mass Effect [trilogy that] came out of there. It was actually a pretty successful run.

https://www.eurogamer.net/bioware-co-founder-reflects-on-mass-effect-3-ending-controversy-life-under-ea-and-the-worst-advice-received-from-xbox

And by rope Zeschuk is talking about freedom that AAA-tier resources and timetables bring. Developers are VERY prone to day dreaming. They love nothing more than sitting around, talking to each other about all the features that they want to implement and the size of the world and cast of characters that their dream game is going to have. Then they take those lists and cook up prototypes and scrap what doesn't work and implement more stuff and scrap more and that goes on for years. That phase is called pre-production or pre-alpha. On a well structured project with strong management and a focused team that phase takes about 6-8 months. On Xbox/Bethesda/Bioware projects it can easily stretch to 5-6 years.

>Literally every single company on earth at this point has AI written code in its products now
Going to be fun when we start feeling the effects of that

that already tells me you never worked a dev job in your life
its not like the code isn't reviewed or tested
it just means that somebody didnt have to manually write out 4 unit tests but instead got AI to do it then just skimmed over it

When dev teams were much smaller and technology "worse", games could be made in 2 years.
These retarded nu-devs relied way too much on automation even before AI became a thing and the games they shat out lacked more and more of that human touch, which ultimately made them worse.
Now with them using AI and bought store assets, we're getting some absolute mega slop like E33 and The Alters.
