I worked in MS up until recently (not the gaming division though).
They are going in hard on AI tools, requiring Copilot integration in every MS product and requiring devs to use as many of them as they can. MS is probably the most AI obsessed company outside of the AI developers (OpenAI etc)

Xbox doesn't realize that there is no sure fire formula that produces great games. They thought that if they give their devs blank cheques they would use that time to make amazing games but instead they were just bumbling around day dreaming, cooking up design documents and prototypes that never went anywhere.

And by rope Zeschuk is talking about freedom that AAA-tier resources and timetables bring. Developers are VERY prone to day dreaming. They love nothing more than sitting around, talking to each other about all the features that they want to implement and the size of the world and cast of characters that their dream game is going to have. Then they take those lists and cook up prototypes and scrap what doesn't work and implement more stuff and scrap more and that goes on for years. That phase is called pre-production or pre-alpha. On a well structured project with strong management and a focused team that phase takes about 6-8 months. On Xbox/Bethesda/Bioware projects it can easily stretch to 5-6 years.

These retarded nu-devs relied way too much on automation even before AI became a thing and the games they shat out lacked more and more of that human touch, which ultimately made them worse.
