Your portfolio isn't real. Its becomes real once you cash it out. Until then its at the mercy of markets. You could go to sleep, wake up the next day and your portfolio could be worthless. The 100k in his account wont suddenly disappear like your portfolio can. Treat your portfolio as a gamble, only as much as you stand to lose and not as all your eggs in one basket.
