I recently started WuWa, and after going through janky ARR-like 1.0 and starting 1.1 I was more disappointed with XIV than impressed with WuWa. It's fucking incredible how cheaply made Square's flagship is. I've replayed XIV multiple times on new characters in order to either experience the updated new player experience or to refresh myself of the MSQ. ARR is better now because they cut out lots of the drag and filler arcs still don't want to replay it because its long and still filled with lots of filler.

Heavensward is very disjointed in the early half because they awkwardly sweep the whole Sultana shit under the rug so we can turbo focus on Heavensward, You really don't spend that much time with Horsefont and Ysayle before they die and Ysayle flying in with Hraesvelgar at the end is unexplained.

In Stormblood things just happen because they just do okay, Zenos is the only highlight because he's very obviously meant to appeal to both fightfags and women. Gyr Abania fucking sucks both visually and story wise, jesus they did not care at all.

Procs alone make rotations way more involved, you can't spreadsheet bossfights like you do in FF. It's true there's more filler spam (but a faster GCD), but you're always looking out for opportunities to fish for procs, pool resources to take advantage of other procs and adapt on the fly. XIV's combat isn't mechanically complex because jobs are very one note and everything is on a set rotation, the most complicated part of XIV's combat system is co-ordinating with the other players to solve the puzzles as they come. There's no element of unpredictability nor do you have any further means of preparing for a fight other than crafting and consuming buff items.

There are no attack patterns only mechanics on a set schedule you have to solve one by one until the fight ends.

In XIV you've got a boss that will use different attacks according to a schedule with said attacks being a puzzle you have to solve. You personally only have to really manage your rotation but this is something that never actually changes once you hit max level, You do press the same sequence of buttons over and over again doing the same 2 minute loop the amount of buttons you have to press means nothing because you're not managing them you just press them when it needs to be pressed within the sequence.

As for the other players, the only thing you manage there is making sure everyone knows how to complete the puzzle, and this becomes so trivial that you can just type a macro in chat and have everyone call out positions because fights are completely static. They tried to change this up a bit in DT but Bosses only alternate between a limited number of patterns anyway so it doesn't matter.

It's significantly less complex than actual action games because of how on rails everything is.
