He has proven time and time again that he's still got that talent for creating great WADs as Sigil 1 was awesome and Sigil 2 was pretty alright.
However, as a gamemaker he sucks, I think that the fact that all his games absolutely sucked just prove that Carmack was necessary for id to work.

so what does this mean for the future of Blackroom? After the Kickstarter failed back in 2016 Romero promised that the game wasn't a scam and he was going to relaunch it once he had some gameplay and not just 4 concept art images. It's been almost 10 years now so the game has to be nearing a complete enough state that they can at least launch the Kickstarter again with some gameplay footage right? I mean, Romero has spent this last decade working on the project he claimed he was passionate and serious about hasn't he?

Carmack is literally only interested in doing new things. He worked on Doom because he wanted to solve 3D graphics in games, he did and everything after that was just optimizations. Then he went to VR, where he also worked out everything he wanted and also all remained was optimization.

He said in interview that he had two choices of what to work on next, either fusion energy or AGI and he decided on the latter because former involved too much politics and engaging with lawmakers, goverments, permissions and shit while AI was still wild west.

There are fears for the future of around 100 jobs at Galway-based video game company Romero Games.

The firm has issued a statement outlining that its publisher has cancelled funding for a game that was currently in development.

The publisher is reported to be Microsoft which this week announced plans to cut around 9,000 jobs globally.
