I've been thinking of doing a rewrite of DT to see how hard it'd be to fix it. I did a quick summary of what I'm thinking for the 6.55 patch introducing the plot, any thoughts on it? For context, Wuk's background is changing to being forbidden from leaving the walls of Tuliyollal due to multiple 'accidents' that almost killed her. This is also where her fear of water comes from.

Exactly. If the writing had been shit in ARR, if Alphinaud's naivety had not been punished, if there had not been consequence, Alphinaud would be considered a shit character. It's the same with Wuk. That's a writing problem, not a character problem.
That Naive character type exists for the purpose of clashing against and being beaten down the reality of the world. To be cut away to where there's still a need to do good, but an understanding that the world is not all tacos and spice. That's the writing DT needed to make Wuk a good character.

Honestly, I'd love to see them bring back some kind of identity to the jobs. Right now everything feels like it got pureed into “rotation go brrr”. DRK lost its edgy MP drain gameplay, SCH is still pretending it’s a DPS with healing envy, and every melee job just glows and spins in a circle indistinguishably. Give tanks something unique again-WAR having Inner Release windows was iconic. Let support jobs actually support mid-fight. I really wanted to get back in this game, but endwalker killed a lot of interesting lore and possibilities and I cannot bring myself to care about a single thing in Tural.
After a few months of vacation from this game I really cannot bring myself to care about the game, even if I really tried. And this is coming from someone that loved to do everything and loved the lore and factions of the game.

I agree with him. DT did a weird decision in trying to separate itself from Eorzea and the other places, because they want to build up a whole new story arc, but at the same time they didn’t know what they wanted to do at the time.
It’s a weird spot, because Tural basically tried to speedrun two continents worth of background in 1 MSQ. Eorzea took 1.0/2.0/3.0/4.0 to finally handle all the locations there and then other ones had bits and pieces for the other continents.
And for 5.0 even though you’re not there, you’re still kept up to date what’s going on with Eorzea.
As what’s been discussed to death is how “safe” Tural was in forcing the backstory of Gulool Ja Ja solving everything 80 years prior.

I think measuring any of these metrics by 'best attempt so far' is the wrong way to go about it. Each MMO has something that it does well and can be learned from. There are parts where XIV falls short compared to other MMOs.
