its sim-ish. there's a decent depth to the flying mechanic so that its not just simple arcade stuff but its not a hardcore flight sim either. mostly you fly around, gather materials, make booze and then deliver to various islands and on occasion get in dogfights with pirates

Blamelikes capture a vibe we are getting in the 2020s. We are currently witnessing the technological singularity and the inability to the human brain or human systems to cope with it. Everything is being automated while people become more retarded by the day as all of their thinking is done for them on the screen. Nothing human survives the future, as Nick Land says.

It's a "lite sim" kinda like those old Novalogic / Janes flying games from the late 90s. The physics are realistic, but the systems are very streamlined. It's a bit of a power fantasy like Ace Combat but only if you use your brain. You have to know what you and your enemies capabilities are, you can't just dodge missiles by pulling in a random direction.

For instance, here is a typical air-to-ground loadout I like. My eight PAB-125s will kill any vehicle and most buildings, but they can be shot out of the sky, so they are wasted on convoys with air defense. Infrared SAMs can't see bombs, but they can see my plane, so I use the smaller PAB-80s glide bombs against them, since I can drop them from 20+ km away. Radar SAMs and SPAAGs can see those too, so I use Kingpins to overwhelm them, as the rockets travel very fast.

The Darkreach is cool, but it's also... kinda boring? If you've escalated to nukes, than most of the ground units on the map are about to be wiped out, and if you can afford $225M for the bomber, you can probably afford ballistic missiles and don't need to waste times with gravity bombs. Piledrivers can hit one corner of the map from the opposite corner, and Tuskos have a 70+ km range. You just take off, point in direction of enemy, go full israel, and land. No real risk.

Peaks of Yore

rock climbing game with physics based climbing, fun/interesting mechanics, charming characters, and a great setting. It gets progressively more intense and apparently the final climb can take multiple hours. If you ever fall you have to start again from the bottom but there are mechanics in the game that help make this not so entirely impossible sounding. There's also some short bouldering sections with a time attack mode for some quick fun.

Probably dropped the collective too much. I never really played helicopters in Nuclear Option, but from my DCS experience, some heavy helicopters will fall from the sky WAY easier than you would think.
You can escape VRS by getting some speed to get out of it. Foward/backward/sideways, doesn't mater, just move. Thats why you don't experience that when you're pulling J-hook turns, only happens when stationary. Or you can just power through on some helis.

Descending into your own prop wash is VERY BAD in a helicopter because it results in an air cycle forming that produces no thrust because you're just pushing the same air in a circle. Descend with some horizontal speed so you catch new air.

It's on sale now and goes in to 1.0 on the 22nd. Also if you buy it while it's in early access you get free access to the supporter edition. It's a survival crafting game that's actually fun and its story is a mix of Half Life and SCP. The grind for resources is manageable and can be adjusted if you want to as well as other gameplay and difficulty settings. You're not forced to do extensive base building but if you want to do that you can and there's a lot of flexibility for building a base. This is probably my favorite game now.

astlibra is cool. but that game practically started development 20 years ago, and you know how indie games were at the time. This one will feel quite cheap and basic but it gets better as it keeps going and you unlock more moves, in a way it makes you wish you had it when you were 10
Do not play the demo, that will make the game seem like a schizophrenic mess. The normal game is a perfectly fine introduction

If you want a nice mouthwash by playing a 'quirky' game with actual focus on huge gameplay, side questlines where you dont know what to expect, etc, try Deadeye Deepfake Simulacrum.
Im not sure how accurate it is to call it an "Immersive Sim" but it has by far the most playstyle variety ive ever seen in a videogame, the skills and perks of the vocations (on top of the already great core mechanics) can be combined into insanity. Its meant to be a short (7-8 hours) but replayable game
It is in fact early access but pretty much all the side questlines are complete, its basically 0.95. It only needs 1 meme gamemode and maybe making the main questline's final mission not be relatively stale compared to every other final mission
I didnt bother with any of the "randomly generated" missions, i just played it for 40 hours sticking exclusively to the hand-crafted content

Jamming is one of the most poorly explained things in the game. Does my jammer automatically target the radar source, or do I have to lock it up first? Does it have a limited range? Dodging IR missiles is reliable, you can throttle down your engines and pre-flare if you see a launcher pointed at you, and they won't even target you at all. Dodging SARH feels like a total dice roll. I think jamming is a bit more reliable on ARH because you are jamming the missile itself, not some radar station thats probably like 50km away.

Not for the normal countermeasure jammer. The Medusa's jamming pods function completely differently and do need to be locked on the radar source.

Essentially, your plane has a radar signature. Each different plane has a different base signature, adding shit to the outside of it on pylons increases it. Flying low to the ground (especially below 20 meters real altitude), notching (turning perpendicular to the radar source), and using the countermeasure jammer all reduce it. If it drops low enough the missile loses lock.

>how much depth
Quite a bit for an automation game. If you've ever played an overhaul for factorio it kinda feels like that except very well balanced. You have a colony with people in it so part of the logistics puzzle is making sure you make enough food/water so you have workers for assemblers/trucks etc. Each map is an island that you can expand by dumping material into the ocean for more room. You can even make more farmland by dumping down a layer of dirt on top. End game revolves around either trading higher end materials for raw resources or sending rockets up to catch asteroids to bring them back down crashing onto your island to mine from.

>combat
No not really. There's a small part of the game where you send a ship out (Just as an icon on your map) to explore nearby islands that have defenders but it barely counts as real combat. If your stats>their stats then you just win.

Here's a webm of my base+rocket in the end game. It's 30 fps because I couldn't figure out how to get it under the filesize limit otherwise.

Tried this after it being shilled before, did not like it at all.
Long range radar missiles are far too oppressive and it's impossible to hit anything but perfectly stationary targets with jet guns because of how the flight model works with yaw turning being particularly jank.
AI has absolutely no trouble hitting you no matter what kind of maneuvers you make of course and perfectly evade all missiles with ease.

Landing gear also breaks far too easily, even at the lowest speed you can go that isn't just straight up dropping to the ground in a hard stall and the most gentle descent angle possible it's a total coinflip if they will just snap.

Still too much sim for the supposed sim-lite game to be enjoyable for this one desu.

I wouldn't say it's DCS or BMS level, but they really are quite good. The planes only feel "arcadey" at all because of the fly-by-wire systems, which you can clearly see working if when pulling hard manuevers. If you try and roll the VTOL to the left, for example, you don't just magically have rotating force applied to the plane, you can watch the engine gauges add power on the left and reduce it on the right.

>>714565024

Sustainability of your own survival is the most important factor, then reliable sources of resources, then exploration. It has such a simple premise but I've enjoyed it so much.

I have a few outposts around the map, but pic is my main base. It ain't much, but it's home.

Did they add a way to remove the HUD that handholds you at every step of it, always showing the bad guys, what level of force to use on each individual one?
How cool would it be if you got a description with the shirt color or something and had to keep an eye out, not lose them, had to actually learn/check the handbook to do your job right.
The only part of the game where you are not held by the hand is writing parking tickets, sad stuff.

Since it was just the demo, you didn't get to see the progression on that front. It gets easier. Hand harvesting gets tool upgrades for speed, then you unlock actual ore extractor machines. I haven't hand harvested anything in over 10 hours. Crafting also gets easier as you unlock the auto-crafter.

Pic related, for example, is my most recent outpost. A food grower makes beans, bee hive makes honey, and the auto-crafter automatically pulls from their storages and crafts the ingredients into full meals over and over. Now whenever I'm in this region, I have a full water collector and full food chest whenever I drop by. Same for more advanced materials, like an Iridium Rod. Ore extractors mine iridium, and the auto-crafter merges iridium ore into rods. I only need to collect the rods and occasionally dump (or keep) the dregs so it doesn't clog up.

This is true for all war.
>AI has absolutely no trouble hitting you no matter what kind of maneuvers you make of course and perfectly evade all missiles with ease.
There are ways to evade each missile type. Just recently (I say recently, maybe the last six months or so?) they added the notch point bar to the HUD so you know that if you put your plane into that bar and fly, it'll evade radar missiles to some degree.

Ideally you would have someone flying the EWS plane and jamming every missile that comes in but that requires teamwork and nobody wants to be the cuck who's sole job is to make his plan go "REEEEEE" at missiles until they leave from embarrassment.

Hole is pretty fun. Singleplayer extraction shooter with some light paranormal elements. Enter levels, hold off against waves of enemies from different factions that will fight each other and get stronger the longer you stay in a level, complete quests, unlock new levels and weapons/attachments/ammo types.

Guns will jam and have to be cleared manually if you overheat them. Shotguns etc. have to be loaded and pumped manually so it can get pretty frantic if you run out of ammo or jam face to face with an enemy.

Costs around 3 bongbux so 4 dollars?

Just keep at it bro. Between all the bugs you're collecting and the save disks you should be able to metaprogress to the end. There's no more goop after the 2nd interlude so you can take your time with the spooky monsters

if you're getting fucked up from afar by boltstrikes you can fly low, using the terrain as cover and then overwhelm them with rockets/AGMs
or have a medusa jam/ARAD them
make use of the target filters on the map screen if you aren't, it really helps picking out where air defense is and planning a sortie

World of Contraptions is neat, it's like a more clinical Besiege campaign (with admittedly clunky building controls) with plenty of room for fudging levels

One massive oversight in this game that I don't know how the devs missed: there is no redout from pulling negative gs. -3g is considered dangerous IRL. You can nose over at -8g without being blinded. This would actually kill you.

the first game was never really complete. Sorta a 24 hour game dev jam challenge.
Receiver 2 is basically the full game, more of the same, but new guns, enemies, a 'safe space' with shooting range, and it includes the 1st game as a sorta easter egg. No reason to buy 1st game anymore

It's a game about building tanks. Still very early in EA but still being actively developed. They recently incorporated geometric internal design into the main branch - meaning components like the engine, gearbox etc as well as crew have to fit inside the vehicle. (although they don't actually have to be fully enclosed, you can make open top vehicles if you like)
There's like 10 scenarios to go through in different eras of tank tech from WW1 to late WW2. Plus a custom tank skirmish mode.

There are horror elements but it's a climbing game first and foremost so there aren't any drawn out scares or big death animations or anything. It's inbetween horror and survival horror since you do have items to repel things.

Seconding Abiotic Factor. Very good for survivalcraftingbullshit. Setting helps tremendously: dicking around in not-Black Mesa environment beats the hell out of overdone open world.
Previously I reached reactors, but stopped midway and now I'm waiting for the full release.

It is fully playable solo. There are server settings for things that would normally require several people. Like carry weight and XP gain.

You are just being difficult.
Not saying they are works of art or look perfectly realistic but I dare you to find better design.

My only complaint are the medusa because it has too many functionalities.
And the Chicane because IRL make me want something less squared.
The Cricket could maybe use longer wings

>Ideally you would have someone flying the EWS plane and jamming every missile that comes in but that requires teamwork and nobody
I would pay others to be the one doing that non-stop.

I'd even do it with a heavier aircraft if there was an anti-submarine gameplay.

is there any way to select targets in the Medusa other than setting your target filter and clicking them one by one?
i find that i can still select targets that arent in my filter if i click them too much, so oftentimes ill select the wrong things or miss a SAM launcher and get missiles thrown at me. plus i cant jam AAMs all that easily
i wish there was some sort of way to just click and drag on the map to auto select everything within my filter. or like, a button

What does flying the Medusa involve? Is it difficult?
Because I could see myself doing a support role considering how I always seem to be the slowest at killing air or ground targets.

you mostly jam anything that relies on radar, so SARH or ARH missiles/launchers and SPAAGs. basically fly around and select any targets that have radar and jam them.
you can also shoot down munitions with a laser, but it only works within a 30 degree front view cone so i haven't used it all that much.
you cant carry that much in terms of armament but you do get like 6 anti radiation missiles
there's also a radar dome that lets you spot any aircraft within 130km which is pretty neat
i think there's a singleplayer mission that should show off everything to expect with the medusa

There is a 120 x 100 km map that is mostly land and a 180 x 120 km map that is mostly sea. There is an editor for making your own missions and you can download more off the workshop. Most of the fun is in the Escalation game mode, where both sides start off with the cheaper aircraft and no nukes, before escalating to more powerful aircraft, and then tactical nukes, than strategic nukes.
