Basically Jecht began a sports star
He knocked up a groupie fan
Said groupie fan was more interested in riding Jecht's dick than caring for the son it produced

After that he schitzorants about his Jecht would've been a better father if he were a regular or if he was some random guy that Jecht cucked

He seemed more invested in Tidus than his wife after leaving zanarkand. I think there wasn't a single time he even mentioned he had a wife/girl back home, only ever talking about his kid. If you really want to stretch it, he was a fuck up of a father who only stuck around a crazy woman because she was his kids mother.

Jecht had the ability to at least recognize his faults. And for someone who wasn't at all built to be soft and empathetic, he still did what he could to reach out to Tidus. Even accepted Tidus's hate without complaint because he earned it. It didn't matter that Tidus didn't mean it by the time he got the opportunity to say it.

>Auron: But…my lord, there must be another way!
>Jecht: This is the only way we got now! Fine. Make me the fayth. I been doing some thinking. My dream is back in the other Zanarkand. I wanted to make that runt into a star blitz player. Show him the view from the top, you know. But now I know there’s no way home for me. I’m never gonna see him again. My dream’s never gonna come true. So make me the fayth. I’ll fight Sin with you, Braska. Then maybe my life will have meaning, you know.
>Auron: Don’t do this, Jecht! If you live…there may be another way! We’ll think of something, I know!
>Jecht: Believe me, I thought this through. Besides… I ain’t gettin’ any younger, so I might as well make myself useful.

I mean just looking at them you can tell he's quite a bit older than her, likely at the pinnacle or slightly after of his career when Tidus was conceived. 10 years later and he was descending into alcoholism and he was no longer in the best shape, so he went out to train for one last season and never came back.

Someone explain the hate for Tidus mom. All she did was ignore Tidus when Jecht was around and later became depressed when Jecht went missing. Meanwhile Jecht avoidied raising his son for years, then resorted to tough love with Tidus after he grew to hate Jecht in part for that neglect.

He didn't know how to be a good dad, and he's bad at expressing himself.
Despite that, he tries his best to be a good one and genuinely cares for Tidus to the point where he cries when it starts to hit him that he might never see him again.

Absolutely fucking not. He had to suffer as a homeless vagrant to even begin to understand how self-centered he was. He regrets everything and reasonably so. And he ends his story mercy-killed at his own son's hands. He grows as a man, and eventually Tidus understands him, but he was a terrible, awful father and human being.

Deep down he had the ability to be a good dad but he was too busy sucking his own dick to ever do so, he was more of a dad to Tidus when he wanted to get killed by him than he ever was in his childhood. In the end he did redeem himself by ultimately helping save the world alongside his son, knowing full well that they would have to sacrifice it all, but it took a whole summoner's journey and the revelation of what the final aeon really was for him to realize that he wasn't going home and that it just wasn't worth being a dipshit because no one cared about him in Spira like they did in Zanarkand, something that happened to Tidus as well.

In fact, Jecht only stopped his drinking after he made a complete ass of himself in public and hit a giant shoopuf and inconvenienced the only two dudes in the world, or ever, he actually liked and called his friends. It took THAT to make him finally stop. In a way it's very realistic character writing because that's how alcoholics are, and in the end he does decide to sacrifice himself to help the world since he knows he can't see his family again, and how much he took them for granted by being such a cunt all the time because he was good at kicking a fucking ball under the water.

the game tells you jecht is sin, the working main villain everyone's trying to stop, basically immediately. so the whole game you're thinking tidus has this unique burden of knowledge about how his dad is actually evil, but then at the end of the game it's revealed that everyone except tidus knew the entire time both that jecht was sin (but in a mechanical, understandable way and not due to a face-heel turn) and that yuna was going to die to kill him. that dramatic irony's basically the plot of the game

>because no one cared about him in Spira like they did in Zanarkand

I think this is the really important bit. In Spira, Jecht can't just sit on his reputation. No one gives a fuck about him. Even him mentioning he came from Zanarkand got him thrown in prison. So in Spira, Jecht had no choice but to improve as a person. That probably never would've happened if he stayed in Zanarkand.

Also that thing about him drinking? Jecht quit for Braska. He did not quit for his son when Tidus asked him to

>Tidus: They say you don’t practice anymore, that you’re gonna retire.
>Jecht: Let them talk. I’m still the best.
[Tidus: They say you’re no good ’cause you drink all the time.
>Jecht: I can quit drinkin’ whenever I want!
>Tidus: Then do it now.
>Jecht: What did you say?
>Tidus: You just said you can!
>Jecht: Heh. Tomorrow, maybe.
>Tidus: Why not today?
>Jecht: Why do today what you can leave for tomorrow?
>Jecht: There he goes again…crying!

Tidus isn’t real he is just a dream. Dreams can’t make new life. They are just a bunch of ghosts refusing to move on. Today they are pretending to be Tidus. Later they will be something else. It is impossible for Jecht to be a Father to him, because he is also just a ghost fantasy. They don’t share any genetics. They don’t experience time. Jecht can’t neglect Titus because they are just a bunch of ghosts living outside of time and space experiencing everyone simultaneously. In reality they are just a giant mass homunculus stuck to the side of a rock.

Its kinda like the 3d Dragon Ball fighting games but slower. The animations play for way too long. Dodge is a commitment, blocking is a commitment, attacking is a commitment, using a bravery move is a commitment.

Bravery move = the only way to genuinely do damage, regular attacks do "chip damage". Bravery moves are slower usually better used as finishers or idk if u are good af with reads.

>Auron: Ten years ago…
>Tidus: (Groan) A history lesson?
>Auron: Jecht saw his first shoopuf here. Surprised, he drew his blade and struck it.
>Tidus: Why?
>Auron: He was drunk…Thought it was a fiend.
>Tidus: Oh, brother…
>Auron: We offered all the money we had as an apology. Jecht never drank again. But, it would seem that shoopuf still works here.

I can imagine Tidus was seething when Auron told him that story? Really? THAT'S what made you stop drinking? Not your son begging you to stop? Not even your career?

It's an easter egg that originated in X-2, where a young Al Bhed character named Shinra mentions how energy from the planet could be harnessed. The idea is that Shinra or his descendants eventually traveled to the world of FFVII and colonized it. The devs kinda sorta acknowledged it a few times and put a photo in the VII remake of the original founders of Shinra Power Inc, where the main character wears a mask very similar to that of the character in X-2. Might not be the same person, maybe a descendent.

Okay I guess we're doing it.

I too thought 7 = X was neat when I was a teenager. As an adult I recognize it breaks way more than it fixes. For example:

>The idea is that Shinra or his descendants eventually traveled to the world of FFVII and colonized it.

The logic of why Jenova (and the Gi of we're including Remake aka your image) cannot diffuse into the Lifestream is because they are alien. And a foreign body cannot join a Lifestream it didn't originate from. So if that's true then how the hell did the Spirians colonize an entirely different world? Shouldn't they be immortal ghosts forever cursed to walk the lands? For that matter, where are the Summoners? The Summoners aren't just responsible for fighting Sin. They also shepard the restless dead souls to the Farplane before they turn into Fiends. 7's world is full of turmoil and tragedy, who the hell is helping these people and spirits pass on if there are no summoners?

You see what I mean? 7 = X demands you hyperfixate on one thing with no regard to how it affects everything else

The right type of foreign body can infect the Lifestream. Like the parasite Jenova and geostigma. Gi are retards that think summoning a meteor will fix things for them.

>how the hell did the Spirians colonize an entirely different world?
X happens before 7. Spirans already colonized the planet. Ancients were magic wielders and summoners. Non-ancients fought physically or used machina.

>who the hell is helping these people and spirits pass on if there are no summoners
People can pass onto the Farplane on their own, if they're not cunts.

Geostigma nearly killed the Planet though

>X happens before 7
God fuck, okay do you remember how the Ancients are supposed to be a nomadic race that lived in communion with the Planet? And that humans broke off from the Cetra because they weren't willing to tolerate the Pilgrimages anymore. And if we're accounting the Remake series then the humans killed off the Cetra out of jealousy and fear. With swords. Magic and Machina weren't separate things in FFX, Zanarkand is described as a machina city and after Yuna's Calm, machina is freely used again. So the magic users aren't split off, they don't speak to the planet, and they're not nomadic. Where the fuck even is the Forgotten Capitol, there's no city like that in Spira. Is it Zanarkand? How do you go from Bevelle to whatever the Temple of the Ancients is supposed to be?

>People can pass onto the Farplane on their own, if they're not cunts.
Yes but most don't even in FFX. You mean to tell me that evil dictator President Shinra passed on quietly? Hojo passed on quietly? That motherfucker uploaded his brain into the internet, are their two Hojo's? One spiritual and one digital?

You see how dumb this gets? It's better to just not do it and take 7 = X as a funny Easter egg with no canonical weight.

Okay what signs do we have for that though? The Crisis from the Sky event happened ~2000 years before FF7 if memory serves. The Gi and the Cetra were able to interact before their deaths so we can at least say that the Gi have been on the planet for 2000 years minimum. The Cetra allegedly built their tomb in Cosmo Canyon. So in 2000 years they don't adapt to the planet's Lifestream? Don't say they haven't put in the effort, all they want to do is die. They think about literally nothing else. They think about it so much that they fuck up the lore by inventing the Black Materia without any access to the actual Lifestream.

Peoples can split and grow ostracized from one another, like in Crono Trigger with the Kingdom of Zeal and the more primitive tribes that lived on the planet below. Previous technology can be lost and new tech created. One must assume that any colonization was a one-way trip with no way to get back to Spira for whatever reason. A lot of evolution can happen over however many generations probably passed between the time of X/X-2, the discovery of VII's world, the travel time to get there, and then adapting to life on the new planet for hundreds or thousands of years. If Shina Inc has already depleted the Lifestream enough that the planet is dying, then they must have been at it for quite a while.

Tidus' mom was a whore and a drug addict who neglected him long before Jecht disappeared. Case in point; Tidus remembers Jecht as being an abusive tyrant who yelled at his sweet innocent mother, threatened to divorce her, to get sole custody and to cut her out of his blitzball money. Later on in the game it's revealed that the reason Jecht yelled at her is because she left a 3 year old Tidus at home without any adult supervision, so she could have a girls night out doing blow and getting facefucked in a piss-soaked nightclub bathroom with all her gal-pals. The entire fucking point of the game is that Tidus is a whiny faggot who blames any and all problems in his life on his absentee father, when in reality Jecht was nothing like Tidus remembers/imagines and loved his son

No you fucking retard. Tidus misremembers shit and projects all his own insecurity into Jecht, that's the whole fucking point. Literally everyone else describes Jecht as a fun loving, easygoing nice guy who liked to brag and drink. Jecht literally gave child Yuna the exact same "no-one can beat me at blitzball, i'm the best!"-routine he gave to Tidus, yet curiously she laughs and says Jecht was a funny guy. It's almost like Tidus "remembers" Jecht as being an abusive asshole because he doesn't actually remember how he was, but he wants to blame all his problems on Jecht.

This. It's more like the old timey equivalent of hysteria as a physical illness. There's no actual toxin, it's just an excuse Tidus uses to go around challenging dogmas without being executed on the spot.

He was a lousy father but not because he didn't want to be nor because he didn't love his son. He just didn't know how.
