I wish the CrossWorlds could be fill tracks and I hope they can be raced on themselves somehow because if so that adds to the count since that's another 15 and every track is looking to be different aesthetically

I played that first closed test and plenty can happen since, but frankly? Nah. Mario is a pack-in game people would eat up by the droves because Nintendo and Mario Kart, Sonic Racing has never compared a single time, but even worse, the game just seems like a rather tangled mess of ideas and mechanics.

In the test, the tracks weren't really much to write home about besides the museum having some sharp turns and big obstacles. But the whole thing focuses an absurd amount on pre-race prep for what sort of racing style you want, and if you think Mario Kart item spam can be bad, you couldn't go five seconds in the lead or the middle of the pack without shit flying everywhere. Heavily weighted carnage out the ass, people frequently getting All-Star modes to tear the groups apart, a ton of auto-hit items. It was easily the biggest complaint of the test, because otherwise the kart racing gameplay at its core is the most vanilla milquetoast thing out there, and not even as responsive as Transformed.

Try Transformed, a pretty big package of its own even if the online isn't really populated anymore. Most people generally consider it better besides the loss of certain karts (no Shadow bike) and tracks, but has plenty of its own variety to make up for it.
If you're really itching for this one, wait to see how it pulls out rather than buying in pre-emptively, the full price and DLC plans is asking a bit much. I say this as an overeager retard that preordered Shinobi.

It's kind of using the basis Transformed set into stone, transforming karts between road, air and water, but its by Sonic Team internally rather than Sumo Digital who worked on All-Stars and Transformed, so it's inherently a totally different game feel and design philosophy. If you're a fan of All-Stars attributing a lot of stuff to Sega as a whole then you'll see plenty more of it with Transformed (the Skies of Arcadia developers actually cried at seeing an HD representation of their game as one of the tracks), this game is a lot more Sonic focused besides the DLC collab stuff. We've only had one closed beta test for PS5 and word of mouth second hand from people trying things a month ago, so it's hard to gauge how Crossworlds will turn out still.

I can genuinely say you should probably skip Team Racing, though. Dull as dishwater besides some good music, a crummy over-reliance on teamplay systems where the AI can tank entire races for you by misfortune, also-dead online, and gachapon customization rewards so you can't really prioritize what you wanna build with the customization.

After playing world a lot, it is actually possible for sonic to be a legit contender. If it manages to have really engaging driving, with good items and track design. It's the best shot sega has ever had to carve out a bigger piece of the kart race genre.

Actually, World only has 30 unique tracks, but 16 variants of those existing tracks, which would make up at least 46 total. And of course, that's not including the 202 routes between each track, even though some would like to forget them. For Crossworlds, if you combine the 25 normal tracks with the 15 crossworld tracks, that's at least 375 unique track combos, and that's not even taking the DLC tracks into account.

So if you wanna be pedantic, Mario Kart World has more unique tracks if you the open world into account, while Sonic Racing Crossworlds will technically have more track layouts total due to their new dimension-hopping mechanic.
