Sleep calls, thanks for the fun week anons one last time. ESA this summer was.. decent yeah, safe but decent. It's bit of a new puberty moment for the event so who knows how it will go from here again. Hopefully well. But they seriously should play Plum, Frame Perfect and Eat Sleep Repeat throughout the week more, there's literally no reason not to.
I'll probably watch some of GDQ but the time to play vidya myself again is strong after a week of none too.
Looking forward to some of you anons to attend any big Age of Empires II tournament threads later this year again if they're holding one (Wololo or Hidden Cup) since last year I saw few of you join in and it was fun but I know RTS esports isn't exactly for everyone, that said I'm safe in saying AoE is special and with fun orientated events (Wololo is always held in a real European castle with history buff moments and Hidden Cup is tournament where all the contestants are hidden from viewers, playing under historical aliases and viewers have to guess which historical figure is which player from their playstyles).

I don't even know. I feel people still overreact with treating GDQ as some god-awful thing for the wrong reasons, but it's REALLY hard for me to ignore the sidegrade from a Proto-occupied staff to the over-corporatization of it.
But then I look at this ESA and I feel I should be fine that there's not much of the corporatization issues but there's still the sour taste in my mouth with "we have so many people stepping up and helping, that means we're right!" shit that's on the same tier as CoolMatty's shit.

I hate speedrunning, it's retarded, I hope these events die out. Speedrunning is only concerned with going fast, which makes no sense. It's the least interesting aspect of a vidya. Unironically the saying applies, that the real adventure was the journey itself, not the end point. Being good at Speedrunning a video game is like being good at playing a sport that only you know the rules of. It's a lot like "Calvinball" in the Calvin & Hobbes comic, where Calvin, disenfranchised with real sports, invents an imaginary game where the rules can never be the same the next time you play it. Speedrunners endlessly practice the same "routes" to the point where running the game is merely a matter of mechanistically repeating a pattern of inputs, there's actually no thinking or strategizing involved, which makes it utterly braindead. I have so much more respect for a person who picks up a game they've never tried and just dives in. It's unnerving to me how these people see an awesome and inspiring thing like videogames, and reduced it to "who can be done with it the fastest", instead of actually enjoying the deep nuances of the games, and what's worse is the people who actually enjoy watching these people stream their mundane and repetitive chores, as if there's anything you could possibly get out of watching such a spectacle. It's no wonder speedrunning has rapidly dwindled in popularity in recent years.
