This does feel like a weird time to do a free weekend.

It is not near a holiday where people might spend more money
It is not to promote a new class, just a new act but why would someone who has never played the game care about a new act?
It is being done when there are massive system changes that could be incredibly imbalanced, poorly implemented, etc.

You'd think a free weekend would be at like 0.5 or some shit when they've had more time to refine what is in the game and it is in a decent state. So far they've had two major patches (0.1 and 0.2) and both had some extreme problems. Seems weird to not even wait for a stable version before doing a free weekend.

I think this is a bi specific thing. So what are the odds that GGG/Tencent hate Chris and once they knew he was making a new game (and poaching staff) they opted to not give him any attention? There is no way you don't make a post or video about Chris when he leaves. He was the central pillar of the game. Even people said MUH VISION it was still in reference to him. Every PoE meme was about him. People pointed at Chris as the game designer who lead the team and was able to make decisions unlike people at Blizzard.
One of the most awkward break ups in modern vidya and no one says anything because all of the major (and even minor) PoE content creators are straight up in bed with GGG and were probably ordered to not talk about it.

Resident Evil Village was cracked within like a week, despite utilizing Denuvo. DRM's and anti cheats don't actually prevent people from pirating or cheating and they only hurt the paying consumer. You can find RE Village on rutracker with special Wine/Proton scripts built in and all you have to do is boot it up and play.
