This is the most depressing shit to me regarding anything involving video games.

Buy games on other systems instead
GameCube games are only that expensive because so many people have been inspired by the various Nintendo Youtubers to try collecting fullsets or to resell these games to people who do
Thankfully outside of Nintendo very few people are doing fullsets so stuff like most PlayStation and Sega games have remained relatively affordable even amidst the retro market bubble. Of course there's still expensive stuff out there but it's not insane across the board unlike most Nintendo games. You're never gonna see of Final Fantasy X selling for $84.99.

It's all fake and gay bullshit too. None of these games are rare. Same thing with the Pokรฉmon games, those things sold millions of copies.
I can understand obscure JRPGs being expensive, just because there's a limited number on the market because they didn't have high sales, but this is just people being massive retarted faggots.

This. You can get far better original Xbox games for far cheaper and not deal with the cubes inferior picture quality and shitty unreliable disc drive and inferior ports. And if you're a fag looking to drop big cash on games, for the price of one mediocre gamecube title you can get one of the best games of all time. And even play it online for free.

I don't see much reason to buy such old games.
If you're into collecting then that's the price you have to pay if you don't want to shop around. Altough gamecube isn't that old that you couldn't just have bought those earlier when it was cheaper.
I don't know man. Just get wii and pirate the games?
I sometimes look at car that I wanted to buy when I was younger. It's never on sale and if it is then it costs lots of money. I'm not gonna blame the market for it. Just myself for not getting one when those were actually available and reasonable priced.

Also in hindsight it's easy to say that.

This is from the era where it's better to emulate. 3D games that were made for standard def screens or handhelds benefit massively from being rendered at the naive resolution of your modern TV or monitor. Usually you get a better experience.

you don't need to buy someone else's childhood trinkets
cherish what you own, share it with those you care about, and don't covet what wasn't yours

if you want to play the game, you have several avenues to play the game without paying re-re-sellers

It's functionally identical to playing disc games.
The only reason you'd want to collect is because you want plastic and cardboard instead of actually playing games.

I guess. But is that the only way to enjoy games made prior to a certain year? I can go into a comic or book shop and discover old things for cheap. I can do this with movies, TV shows, manga, board games. I'm free to blindly discover things I think might be interesting in a hobby shop and go through the much more fun process of finding out, "Oh, this is great! I never knew about it before!". I get to crack open the comics, skim them a bit, check out the covers, actually feel like I'm fucking exploring my options.

But for older games, I'm forced into this sterile, "Load everything on a disc and boot up a menu" bullshit. That ain't the way to explore entertainment. How would you prefer to look at paintings? Walking around hallways in a museum with little plaques giving you further information about it, a fucking ZIP file full of JPEGs and a .txt document that you have to look through to find out information about each image?

I know that's just the way it is unless this shit crashes, but you guys gotta see how soulless this is, right?

My boxed PC games collection is massive. Even just for loose discs I have binders full of games. I'm sad that's it's so rare for me to find games out in the wild anymore. Or be able to by lots of loose discs of decent shit for cheap online. At least I collected when it was still possible.

And you could say the same for a lot of gamecube games if you go to a few garage sales or whatever.

Look, I can find Mario Sunshine for $30-40, probably cheaper. Pikmin on the gamecube, 30-40. Luigi's mansion, 40-50. Smash Melee, 30-40.

yeah, if you want a game that flopped horribly like say Fire Emblem path of radiance, well then it's gonna cost you a pretty penny because only so many of them were made and nobody bought it. But to pretend like all the Nintendo games are absurdly priced is silly. You can get most of the good gamecube games for pretty fucking cheap, cheaper than they retailed for.

It really shouldn't be.
You have options at your disposal to not pay a lot of money for old games.
Behold;
Just emulate
It's that easy. GCN emulation can be done on pretty much anything now.
>b-but muh real hardware
Then buy a Wii, a GCN controller, and hack the fucker. All you need is a micro SD card and you're good, it runs GCN natively.
>b-but muh official!!
Buy a fucking Switch 2, buy the $100 GCN bluetooth controller, and play the games on NSO. Of the shit in your image, I bet the following will be on NSO at some point before the end of next year:
>Kirby Airride
>Wario Ware Inc
>Four Swords Adventures
>Luigi's Mansion
>Mario Part 4&5
>Super Mario Sunshine
The rest are either on there or are licensed shit (or are Smash which Nintendo doesn't add to NSO for some reason).

It depends entirely on the sticker but after first taking it out of the case sleeve and flattening it, what you want to do is with a finger, push carefully on the corners. Go back and forth over and over. It begins to lift gently. Focus on the side closest to the edge. Lift two corners, and gently shimmy it upward over and over. Once more than half has been pulled away, grasp it with your index and thumb and tug gently and slowly. It's not always 100% but it does work, and any damage that it does suffer is incredibly minor. It doesn't always work since I'm a habitual nail biter and you need nails for it.

Lol you are coping nigga.

People look back on PS2 as a glorified DVD player. Gamecube nostalgia is peaking right now though, people only look back on it fondly because the games were great. The games on PS2 haven't aged nearly as well, most of them being multiplats. You guys had Tekken and GTA, God of War. I don't really remember anything else that people were playing at the time. PS1 had a much better library than 2.

Imo the entire game is EZ mode. The motion controls are so good that it's worth it even if it makes it easier. People don't really play RE4 because it's difficult. They play it because it's a cool fucking game and the pointer controls only make it more fun. I understand the appeal of playing it with a gamecube controller or whatever though. But I'm a sucker for good pointer controls. Shout out to Sin and Punishment 2, play that fucking game if you haven't yet. Best on rails shooter ever made, awesome usage of pointer controls.

Got a looooot of mileage out of games like monkey ball, melee, and really quite enjoyed rpgs like Lost Kingdoms and Baten Kaitos, Tales of Symphonia too. Resident Evil 4 blew my mind at the time. Picked up F-zero GX later on for like $10 and was also blown away by that game.

I felt being a Wii fag was much harder at the time as there was a significant drought when it came to first party games. This anon gets it >>714632893

Depends on what you want to do with your PC.
I spent like 2K plus on building a new one and the most I've done with it is emulate fucking gameboy games and shitpost and watching youtube. I mean I'll use it for more stuff down the line but I do most of gaming on consoles still funnily enough despite my PC being much stronger. It's silly, I know, but it's good for emulation at least. If you want to emulate gamecube games in particular I doubt you need a new PC for that.

Unless there's like a ton of new PC games you want to play and you can't, which I find hard to believe as most new slop isn't worth playing, then I wouldn't do it as you'll probably regret selling your games later on.

Yes. Plus buy a Wii and hack it
You can play every GC game easily and authentically, and the GC is probably around it's peak values. Yes values may still go up, but slowly, and it'll get harder and harder to sell the games as interested buyers literally die. Like Atari 2600 games are half impossible to sell lol

If you just want to build a PC that can emulate gamecube games, I'd follow a guide like this.

https://youtu.be/ufbnZyLItDg?si=DU8S2BPG4PaMBcgk

You don't wanna go much cheaper than $500 or so, but you could also buy one of those mini computers for around $300-400 and those can emulate old games just fine as well. Yeah I'd avoid a laptop in general for gaming even if it is emulation. Then you don't really need a fancy monitor either. If you're on a budget just get a 27" 1080p display and you're good to go man

Alright so what are the good games? I'll list out some Gamecube games and you can tell me what are the better PS2/Xbox equivalents.

Resident Evil Remake
Resident Evil 4
Super Monkey Ball 1 and 2
Mario Sunshine
Wind Waker
Twilight Princess
Fire Emblem Path of Radiance
F-Zero GX
Super Smash Bros Melee
Luigi's Mansion
Pikmin 1 & 2
Tales of Symphonia
Paper Mario the Thousand Year Door
Mario Kart Double Dash
Metroid Prime 1 & 2
Killer 7
Metal Gear Solid Twin Snakes
Eternal Darkness
Beyond Good and Evil
Animal Crossing
Mario Strikers, Golf, and Tennis
Mario Party 4, 5, and 6
Baten Kaitos
Lost Kingdoms 1 & 2
Kirby Air Ride
Battalion Wars
Custom Robo
Pokemon XD & Coliseum
Chibi-Robo
Viewtiful Joe
Sonic Riders
Sonic Adventure DX & 2 Battle
Star Wars Rogue Squadron 2

Surely not ALL of these games are trash, especially the ones that would later get ported to other consoles?

Wii had a much weaker library and output of games. It had some great games don't get me wrong, but the Gamecube was much more consistent and there was just a lot more games and third party support as well. Wii unfortunately while having good games also had many of them with FORCED waggle controls. Light gun controls are good, pointer controls are good. Gyro controls are good. But Waggle is SHIT though, we can all agree on that.

Youre shilling the wrong way here. The issue isnt that its a buyers market where people are clamoring to buy the games. You certainly dont need to dissuade people from impulse buying gamecube games. The issue is that every casual nintendo gamer is sitting on 200$ copies of zelda and mario and pokemon and refuses to sell. Convince these people to let go of their copies and prices will start dropping for you.

I hate what the internet has done to used games. Back in the early to mid 2000s you would still see used games from the NES era sell for a couple bucks. Starting around 2010 the prices on all used games everywhere skyrocketed, even for games from the previous generation instead of several generations back.

And yet none of them run at 60fps like they did on the Gamecube, not even the new remaster on modern consoles which is a GIGA fail.

What a pedantic list, every single one of your points is awful and you could only provide alternatives with SRPGs and Sports games. I'd hate to break it to you but Berwick Saga isn't better than Fire Emblem. Suikoden is a totally different type of RPG. Disagea is not better than Fire Emblem.

Super Monkey Ball 1 and 2 and Resident Evil 4 all ran better on Gamecube.

>Melee
>Dull overblown game people have lost interest in its revival from 10 years ago.
I don't give a fuck if people have lost interest in it, which is hardly even true seeing as how that game continues to bring in new players despite it being 20+ old. There are no other fighting games like that that have sustained a competitive presence like that, but compfaggotry aside, Melee is THE BEST SMASH GAME when it comes to not only how the game plays (very important), but the single player content was also at its peak in Melee. Trophies were better than stickers, brawl and Smash 4/ultimate completely took a shit all over the momentum based physics which just made the game floatier and less fun EVEN FOR CASUALS. Compfags give the game a bad rep. Melee is one of the best games ever made, period.

Horrible list, horrible points, kill yourself. Like I get your shitposting but why even go through the effort to type all this garbage out? Congrats, you made me mildly irritated but I'm actually laughing over fucking retarded this list is. Here's your (You).

And what kind of idiot today thinks, "Man, I really want to play Wario Ware, but I'm not going to download the game for free and play it on any device in my house within the next two minutes. I'm going to look for the physical game in a store around the world and pay a small fortune for it."

What's the cube's exclusive answer to Halo 2? Socom? Twisted Metal? Champions? Crimson Skies? Mech Assault? Armored Core? Devil May Cry? Ninja Gaiden? GTA? It doesn't even have Burnout 3.

Not only are they trying to sell shit for jewish prices, many sellers on both ebay and local equivalents more and more refuse to state what condition the disc is in and never answer if you ask. If they actually show the back of the disc, they take the photo from an angle where it appears scratch free and claim it's in "good" condition.

Glad Europe got the best cases, best spines and best cover art. Also the best player's choice editions where the whole case and spine was silver, so you don't have to have those ugly yellow piss stains on your shelf. The only time a budget re-release looked premium.

1) just because some kike is listing stuff for that price does not mean it's actually the going rate of what people will actually pay for those games. It's been over a decade since I've stepped foot in any of those "retro" game stores, but the last time I did, I remember seeing a bunch of playstations, dreamcasts, super nintendos, etc all wrapped up and being sold for 3x what you could get them off ebay, for same condition. And remember, this was a decade ago before things got nearly as crazy.

2) nintendo tax. Because nintendo has fostered a strange cult of personality, it causes people to go full-retard on the second hand market. Plenty of examples where there can be a multiplat game on gamecube/ps2/xbox, and the game can be of equal quality across platforms or possibly the GC version being slightly worse in some way, but the GC version will still inexplicably go for twice the price of the others. And of course anything with a mario or link or pikachu slapped on the box will instantly have its price jacked up.

3) generation tax. There is a slow-moving "wave" when it comes to what old vidya is en vogue at any given point. It's all based on who grew up with a particular console/generation, and when they reach an age where they have disposable income to blow on useless crap. So first atari got big, then NES, then SNES/Genesis, then N64/PS1, and so on. Right now 6th gen is still the big thing for "retro". 7th gen has slowly been starting to go up but most of that stuff is still reasonably priced. The more obscure stuff has gone up though.

Sure, a system like PS2 will have rare games that cause prices to be higher. But the price is much more logical. It's not like with Nintendo games where the first-party stuff that sold tens of millions of copies each are the games that go for the highest prices.

The big exception for PS2 I can think of off the top of my head is the Silent Hill games. Survival Horror games in general also seem to go full-retard with price, and logic just flies right out the window, not dissimilar from nintendo game values.

Not really. The only real downside was all the "nintendo kiddie shit le gaycube xD" bantz on the middle school playground. But in terms of actually owning one at the time, there were constant bangers coming out year after year. Not to mention really sweet deals with players choice titles for 10-20 bucks a pop and plenty of stuff easily snagged on clearance.
My library of games from back then included
>Mario Sunshine
>Wind Waker
>Metroid Prime 1
>Metroid Prime 2
>Eternal Darkness
>Viewtiful Joe
>MGS Twin Snakes
>007 Nightfire
>Timesplitters 2
>F-Zero GX
>Smash Bros Melee
>Pikmin 2
>Pokemon Colosseum
>Super Monkey Ball
>Animal Crossing
>Paper Mario TTYD
>Resident Evil
>Resident Evil Zero
>Resident Evil 4
>Prince of Persia
>Sonic Adventure 2

So yeah, always had some really good shit to play and never felt like I was lacking, even though of course there were plenty of fantastic games on PC/PS2/Xbox that weren't on gamecube.

It was a totally different story with the Wii. Despite that console selling gangbusters, none of those sales translated into nintendo reinvesting into increased high quality game output. Instead, despite selling better than gamecube, the quality and output was actually lower than before. I remember significant dryspells where there was fuck-all to play on Wii, and meanwhile everyone else is enjoying all these cool games coming out on PC/PS3/360. The final straw that got me to finally get into PC gaming was that one E3 conference where all they showed was some wii music drum and nintendogs bullshit

That was the problem, there wasn't. When Xbox and PS2 were going online you still had cube guys talk about smash melee, a game that was years old. All the Xbox versions looking a generation ahead, GC at best matching PS2 visually but never being able to be taken seriously due to the aesthetic of the console and controller.

That's the thing, we don't, but they occasionally sneak into the pile being sold to us. Like. For example.
Last month, a copy of Painkiller was in a large stack of Xbox games. Painkiller gold. I told the guy we don't take PC games, and he best sell it privately on Facebook. He shrugs and says he'll toss it in. I set it aside and let the owner know, and he says I can take it home. After cleaning the discs, I install them to my PC. The key still works fine and I've got Painkiller Gold. That's how I got Empire at War, Battlefield 2142, Jedi Academy sealed, and Portal.

The premise of the thread is stupid. Those are collectors. They buy those games so they can display them on shelves. They play burns/roms on an emulator or original hardware. Anyone with a brain does the same.
>quality autist? emulate and crank it up
>accuracy autist? burn the game or get an ODE, then play it on original hardware

What I don't understand is how people are in a perpetual state of denial regarding these prices rising. I have been hearing "this bubble will burst soon enough" for twenty years now, and back then people were talking about 20โ‚ฌ games.

I always think the best approach to introducing kids to games is through old games.
Otherwise they probably start out with some f2p phone because those are free or gets influenced by hype and ads to play the latest fotm.
Old games let you appreciate the game as a game, not as a simulation of reality.

I bought a bunch of PS2 games back when GS was doing their PS2 liquidation sale. It was like buy 2 get 2 free with a lot of games for 2 dollars. Most of them came disc only and I still haven't gotten cases and manuals for most of them.
No disc listings are ridiculously rare on ebay and they usually try to sell for around the same price as CIB. Of course, prices have only gotten worse.

I've been selling all of my old games recently, and you would be amazed how much interest there is.
These prices are fucking ridiculous, and it seems to be entirely nostalgia-driven. People want to replay the same games that they played as kids, and prices don't seem to reflect what's actually good. For example I got $180 for Pokemon LeafGreen, but I could only get $40 for Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga.

I've had two separate trannies show up. One for a broken copy of Pokemon Yellow, and one for a Nintendo 64 with Mario Kart 64.

Disney reprints their classics every 2 years. I see shrek trilogy always on sale at walmart. 5 dollar movie bins at stores have old movies in sealed cases, from Holes to happy feet. Maybe you should retail shop more. Movies are constantly reprinted.

Its demand.
Like I have kind of collected Xbox games(stopped after 120) and like you had some pretty good 8/10 games that sold a 100k copies going for 2 bucks and halo 2 going for 16,-.
Nobody really collects for xbox, everybody collects for nintendo.

In early 2000 most people knew about collectors shit, even for games. Obviously as a kid you wouldn't care about such things.
What people didn't expect is the possibility of emulating everything and transition to digital only.

>$100 ... triple
maybe for some un-opened games, most games value just returned to the original buying price.
You would've made more money buying some Nintendo stocks at that time. Having any regrets for this is stupid, its just gambling.
My brother used to have Pokemon cards that possibly increased a hundredfold in value.
That's where you can have a little regret, but we just joke about it now.

Good job emulation is free isn't it? If you do happen to be a zoom who never had the chance to own retro as a kid, then you're a fucking poser and retard for propping up the insane second-hand price gouging market. If you still have your original consoles, ODE's or flashcards are readily available, reliable and many ODEs are plug & play with no soldering req'd these days. There is literally no excuse to prop up this market.

I agree with you and people should just emulate it if it's a cost issue but my sister is the more autistic one that needs the physical copy. She is the paypig and I just laugh. I'm only here for the emulation discussion to be honest so I can get her favorite games for free.
