All I know is Bridget was a better character before Strive. Strive's design looks cute and the theme is pretty good, but old Bridget is better and the character is more interesting identifying as a boy. At least Strive existing doesn't change the old games, though sadly you can never talk about Bridget the same in most communities. Even the wikis for older games use "she/her" now. It's silly.

He came to that conclusion himself. His culture assigned him a female identity and it made him uncomfortable without any external influence. He was not induced to it. Making Bridget suddenly identify himself as female negates his whole arc and makes it completely nonsensical that he would have ever started on it in the first place. It is fucking terrible writing to suddenly declare by fiat, that that superstition whose consequences have been torturing the character for over 20 years has been right all along and he never should have fought it. I hate it. No one would have given a single shit if Guilty Gear had introduced an entirely new character to fill that space and left Bridget of all characters alone. They undermined representation for one kind of marginalized person to appeal to a different, trendier kind. And that's fucked up.

They did tell him that he's male, and that he had to pretend to be a girl. He was uncomfortable because his parents specifically told him that they felt bad for doing this to him, that he might've been hurting him, so he felt that he needed to man up and prove his manhood to appease their parents and feel less like a burden.
