A couple of days ago I asked for a good FE game to try since I quit Radiant Dawn 15 years ago (it sucked, never wanted to go past the 3rd map).
Some anon recommenced FE Engage. The battles themselves are enjoyable (if easy), even if your characters magically dodge a shit ton of attacks, but damn the shitty ressource gathering and useless dialogues are killing me.
I just want to play battles, not run around collecting iron ore, oranges and eggs. It makes me feel out of touch with modern games.

Modern FE keeps leaning more and more towards having all this hub stuff because the new fans don't actually play them for the strategy gameplay. If you just want no filler between battles, play some of the earlier games like GBA. Awakening is also the last one to not really have any major filler between chapters aside from being the first game where supports are unlimited so you may have a ton to read at times but at least those are skippable.
