Back when exactly? I remember emulating SNES games in 2001 and everything was smooth and easy on my PC where even basic desktop usage was often laggy. ROM file sizes were impressively small as well, even relative to the little storage space that we had available back then.

I think I figured it out. The final piece of prophecy is Girl killing Kris.
Kris was depressed and suicidal after Dessapearance and his family breaking apart, that's why he got roped into this plan - "If you're going to die, at least die saving the worlds"
This explains why he is so uncomfortable around Noelle - she is his future killer, after all.
This explains Snowgrave - he is supposed to condition Noelle for his own murder.
This explains why Ralsei was hoping that Prophecy will change if they switch the Girl and make her kind.
This explains Susie's reaction - she was genuinely shocked about it (she thought that Prophecy is a good thing), but she quickly found a cope - after all, there's no way in hell she would kill her best friend?
