Because I like stories in every medium and each one has a strategic artistic advantage to conveying theirs to their audience.

Unfortunately the biggest budget ones are all worthless 99% of the time just like modern Hollywood so it's playing indie games years after they come out and are tested to be good.

Live service monetization grift that are proud of their addicted whales and don't even hide their shit anymore ala gacha turned me off a lot of other options in gaming.

I don’t. I loaded my 100% save file of RDR2 looking to just relax but all I did was shoot up Thieve’s Landing and then I got bored.

I recently finished watching The Irresponsible Captain Tylor for the first time the other day, and there was a line that hit me like a ton of bricks in the second to last episode.

Everything leading up to this one moment, this one scene, finally culminating in this revelatory breakdown, the protagonist laying bare his entire thesis for existence with one retort. I suddenly found tears welling up in my eyes. Because I knew exactly what he meant. This is a bit of a long-winded, roundabout way of answering the thread, and I apologize for the blog post but...

Just as with many others on this planet I presume, I play video games to keep myself sane and spirited in a wholly insane, unfair, and shackling world. I have long since given up on being the straight man in my own life. If must be the designated fool, outsider, pariah, or "heretic" wherever I go, then video-games shall be my one oasis. For only jailers inveigh against escape.

I'm tired of the rules, of the monotony of expectations, of the drab, dreary drollness of every day life. I have lived a markedly below average life in all respects. So if I can't reach above average in reality, I may as well achieve it in simulated, interactive entertainment. In Tylor's very own words
